Has anything ever been reported about the nefarious activity that goes on in this parking lot around 1530-1700 daily? There are drugs openly dealt and being smoked and the groups of young people that loiter create an intimidating experience, anyone else ever see this?

That corner is generally a dump. The Walgreens parking lot was always full of litter and their selection was mediocre. They cleaned it up a bit but is just…well…you said it. We switched to RiteAid on California and Bartells in Jefferson Square.

I rarely go there for that reason. I don’t think it’s Walgreens though that they are hanging out, it’s the mini mart next door.

Find out where they’re are headquartered and file a complaint. Start with the local manager at the store as well. 206-938-2759

They could at least afford a security officer and a clean up person. People need jobs and there are two.

Excellent suggestions, Vanessa. And notify the local police precinct.

It’s too bad. the Proprietor of the convenience store/gas station is kind, at least to me. I do use both stores and have not had problems but I always see too many people with their butts hanging out of their pants with their prison chic dress code.

And not to be too harsh. The food bank is nearby and they do a wonderful job.

I agree that the parking lot is nasty dirty.

But my biggest complaint about this store is that the picture girl remembers all the pictures we print there. As in “more wedding photos, didn’t you already get married last summer?” (had two ceremonies)

    Yup. Creepy.

Rich…you’re a guy, and I assume not carrying a purse (although, I suppose you never know, huh). Being a woman who usually runs errands alone, I choose other places, because of safety issues.

    And, yes…the foodbank does a wonderful job ! :)

One school of thought is to avoid the store because the parking lot is sketchy. Another approach is to shop there specifically because Walgreen’s had the courage to open a store in a very poor neighborhood. I know the parking lot can be scary. I go there all the time and there are some very unsavory folks there. But show me any store or parking lot in a high poverty area that isn’t struggling with this issue. I really don’t blame Walgreens. I thank them sincerely for opening a business in a poverty-stricken neighborhood with mostly SHA low income housing nearby. I’m very thankful I have a store I can walk to. No one else will open a store there. SHA has been trying to sell the vacant lot a block north for (literally) 9 years. No one will buy it and no one will open a business. Please consider putting up with some of the problems to support the stores that operate in high poverty areas. The community would be worse off without Walgreens.

SEE CRIMINAL ACTIVITY ALMOST EVERY DAY AT THE PARKING LOT!
