How unfortuante. I am glad that you confronted the clinic with the issue. That is totally unnecessary. We have boarded our pets at Burien Vet and had postive outcomes. We have used only once; but equally favorable; Petsmart Hotel at South Center. But our preferred method is to swap care with friends; and while that doesn’t work out for everyone, our situation has worked. It does mean that you and your friends can’t go on a trip together though! Who will stay home with the pups?

Thanks for the feedback Mattyc. If you need to board your dog in the future I know mine is a big fan of the Barking Lounge. (Not quite W.Seattle based) but the people are very friendly, my dog still runs through the door and they wash all of his bedding upon my return. And lastly, what sold me on the place, (literally) was the fact taht they have web cams so you can check in on your guy/gal during the day! :)

We travel a lot, and mostly do what flowerpetal suggests, trading dogs with other doggie-owning friends. But sometimes it just doesn’t work out.

For those times we use SuperFunHappyDog. They do daycare and boarding, and best of all they pick up and deliver to West Seattle in the SFHD bus. Our dog loves the place.

We’ve sent our dog to Stella Ruffington’s on California by Cafe Ladro. It used to be The Tail Wag. They do doggie day care and boarding. The dogs get a lot of love and attention. One day they turned on the bubble machine for the dogs to chase around. Another day they put on a doggie DVD, which believe it or not, the dogs watch… On a hot day, they put out a kiddie pool. They know my dog by name and it’s nice to see that she runs in everytime we drop her off.

If you are boarding your dog, for an extra $5, they will add a trip to the dog park.

I’d second Stella Ruff, and know that the former owner(s) still have a dog walking and sitting service as well (Playing with Pets).

I love the front desk staff at VCA, but quit going there with pets when the new manager came with the VCA business. The mood of the place has changed significantly, I can’t manage to go in for anything (even to pick up food) without the manager coming thru the front office and saying something that seems angry, condescending or unprofessional.

If I can’t stand the place, it’s got to be wrong for my dogs. Sorry Dr. Keist! Still adore you!

Yes, if not for Dr. Keist we wouldn’t go there either. It’s so clinical – but he is so good with our dog and she lets him check her all over, which she does not do for just anyone! :)

Dr. Keast is not longer at West Seattle VCA. :( He has moved to Montana.

I’ve had good and bad experiences with boarding my furball there.

One time, he came home smelling like urine, with some of his medication stuck in his fur. :-(

But the last time, he was fine and they seemed to take good care of him.

Dr. Plosky gives him excellent medical care, though–can’t say enough good things about her.

I highly recommend West Seattle Dog House Daycare: http://www.wsdoghousedaycare.com. The owners, Carol and Javier, are amazingly wonderful people and treat my Romeo like family. The part lab, part hound, part human will be 2 years old in April and has been going to West Seattle Dog House Daycare since I got him at just 3 months. It helped so much with socializing and training him. He wags his tail so hard as we approach the house in the morning; it makes me so happy to see him get excited to see his friends. And, in the evening when I pick him up, he’s exhausted, so I don’t have to feel guilty about leaving him at home in my condo. I often have to work events in the evenings and it’s convenient to just leave him there over night…and a wonderful feeling to know he is in good hands with such loving people. And, they’re reasonable, too! I cannot say enough about them. They can be reached at carol@wsdoghousedaycare.com
or 206.938.DOGS. Tell them Angelynn and Romeo sent you ☺
