I need to get a new vaccuum cleaner and need a very good one as I have a dog that sheds.

Looking for recommendations based on personal experience. Is a really expensive one worth it?

I recommend AGAINST getting the Hoover Windtunnel…

Here is a recent thread regarding vacuums: https://westseattleblog.com/blog/forum/topic.php?id=2940

We’re about to get a new vacuum. I know many people who swear by their Dysons and Riccars. Consumer Reports rated the Eureka Smart Vac 4870 very highly and said it was great for pet hair. It’s only about $160. Anybody else have one of those? I didn’t find any mention of it in the previous thread. With 3 dogs and 2 cats we need all the help we can get in the battle with pet hair.

I think the expensive ones are worth the cost. I’ve bought Eurekas, Hoovers, and more only to find them ready for the landfill after a few years. Now I have a Riccar and a long haired dog. Sweet machine!

Dyson. Picks up dirt we didn’t even know we had. Kind of yucky to know how much there was in the carpet. I think it picked up enough cat hair to make another cat! My mother had one and I helped her vacuum the house when we visited. I was hooked. WOW. It is more $ but if you have carpet then it’s worth it. We have the pink one! It was on sale. –Jack

p.s. my mom just purchased a small throw rug and she can’t use the Dyson on it. The Dyson is so powerful that the rug gets sucked to the bottom so hard it can’t move!

I bought a Miele in 1999 and it is still going strong. Everything about it (right down to the cords, hoses and attachments) is designed very thoughtfully. I have allergies so the best part for me is that it has a HEPA filter and multiple layers of gaskets and seals so the dust getting sucked up stays INSIDE the vacuum and does not get redistributed to the air. You can also dial down the suction for upholstery and curtains, etc.

Miele. They suck better than the competition and won’t stop sucking until you’re completely satisfied.

ok for someone who cleans for a living I have run the gammet on vacuum cleaners.

Dyson very heavy, my repair stopped selling them.

I have to use different types. Things to keep in mind. do you have both wood and carpet floors? canister tend to work best, meile is very nice but pricey. I use an upright riccar and a sanicare cannister. hovers are cheap.

my upright riccar will do wood floors and carpets all at the same time. it just does NOT do well in corners or gets the cobwebs well. Go to AAA vac in top hat good honest guys who don’t try and sell you something you don’t need

I used to use panasonics they have changed a few things that doesn’t work well with my business.

but for regular home use it will fine. I use one in my house right now.

Beachdrive girl, you have me, but if you really need on call me and we can talk. not to happy with robo vac? LOL:)

I have two dogs, and recently got a roomba. I LOVE it. It seriously has made my life much easier. I turn it on every morning for an hour when I walk the dogs for a walk. I don’t trust them not to kill it unsupervised. It picks up so much hair that I didn’t even notice was there, and I am pretty anal about pet hair. It’s very disturbing how much it picks up. I walk in the morning with a smile, knowing my floors are being cleaned. I still mop/vacuum but only need to once a week, and even then I probably really don’t need to. I have heard people complain about their Roomba’s not doing a good job, but I think they weren’t cleaning the filter properly. Mine has done an amazing job.

Roomba. Mine is named Herbert and he does a fabulous job. He has gotten sick twice, but the warranty is good so they’ve sent replacement parts. I got so overwhelmed having to vac every day or two with the pet hair and Herbert has changed my life. He does well on carpet, tile and wood and even goes under furniture. He is constantly pulling dust out of the floors I didn’t know existed.

Like Guidosmom said, you just have to keep Roomba’s filter/brushes cleand and you shouldn’t have problems.

Plus, it always makes for great entertainment watching your cat/dog run from Roomba.

I would go to AA Sewing and Vac on 1st Ave in the Top Hat area (just off 108th). We bought a Riccar from them and it works great. My only problem with it is that is is a canister vac and I hate having the vacuum part trailing behind me. I like uprights and when I have to buy a new vac it will be an upright. I like the kinds without a bag but I think they have to be emptied more often.

We have been very pleased with the service from AAA. We have purchased two vacuums from them. We gave the first one to my neice and went back for a second. Their service is amazing and it feels good to support local folks.
