squareeyesParticipantOh man, now with all the suggestions above I’ve been reminded, and have to add, two more — Shaun of the Dead and Napoleon Dynamite. But I can’t remove any from my original list so now it’ll have to be top seven instead of five.
June 5, 2009 at 5:22 pm #668839
carrieannMemberI behaved and didn’t go over 5, but if we’re bending the rules now I’m totally adding some. In addition to those others have mentioned (LOVE Harold & Maude)…
Johnny Dangerously
Groundhog Day
Best In Show
Zoolander
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
Top Secret
Some Like It Hot
Parenthood
Spaceballs
June 5, 2009 at 5:32 pm #668840
Lucile 2MemberLOVE THIS THREAD!

3. Best in Show (for all you crazy dog lovers–myself included!)
4. Office Space
5. Billy Madison (this has been a favorite since it came out!)
June 5, 2009 at 11:58 pm #668841
DMParticipantThanks SO MUCH for starting this thread Rich! We’ve managed to create a big fat list of fun films.
I’d also like to add:
Rushmore
Steve Zissu and The Life Aquatic
Bottle Rocket

c@lbobMemberI stopped looking at people’s answers because they all included a lot of great movies, and this challenge is for only five. So, I recount the movies that made me laugh out loud the most, not necessarily the greatest of comedies. In no particualr order:
It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (up to getting to the “Big W”, at least.)
Bedazzled (1967) [very British]
Blazing Saddles
Brazil
Being John Malcovich
June 6, 2009 at 5:35 am #668843
HMC RichParticipantI totally forgot about BRAZIL! Although I had friends who thought I was nuts after they watched it. I love that movie.
I like these kinds of threads. It also gives me clues to order some of the flicks that I have not known about that have been posted.
Maybe every few weeks we do a different top 5?
June 6, 2009 at 5:43 am #668844
ellenaterMemberI’m sorry but Beverly Hills Cop (the first one, the others suck) is the funniest movie ever. EVER
Airplane should definitely be on the list. Best in Show. The Jerk. Fred Willard is literally channeling Chris Mathews in Best in Show. It’s almost creepy…
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is the sweetest movie. RIP Jon Candy.
Sixteen Candles!

GenHillOneParticipantNavin R. Johnson: Well I’m gonna go then. And I don’t need any of this. I don’t need this stuff, and I don’t need you. I don’t need anything except this.
[picks up an ashtray]
Navin R. Johnson: And that’s it and that’s the only thing I need, is this. I don’t need this or this. Just this ashtray. And this paddle game, the ashtray and the paddle game and that’s all I need. And this remote control. The ashtray, the paddle game, and the remote control, and that’s all I need. And these matches. The ashtray, and these matches, and the remote control and the paddle ball. And this lamp. The ashtray, this paddle game and the remote control and the lamp and that’s all I need. And that’s all I need too. I don’t need one other thing, not one – I need this. The paddle game, and the chair, and the remote control, and the matches, for sure. And this. And that’s all I need. The ashtray, the remote control, the paddle game, this magazine and the chair.
[walking outside]
Navin R. Johnson: And I don’t need one other thing, except my dog.
[dog barks]
Navin R. Johnson: I don’t need my dog.
*the best scene ever*

ellenaterMemberLMAO and…
“I’m picking out a thermos for you. No ordinary thermos will do. It’s the extra best thermos that you can buy. With handles, and stripes, and a cup built right in.”

pigeonmomParticipantPulp Fiction is a black comedy or dark comedy.
June 6, 2009 at 8:57 pm #668850
c@lbobMemberPlanes, Trains, and Automobiles; High Anxiety; and Pulp Fiction all meet my laugh-out-loud quotient. 5 is too short a list.
June 6, 2009 at 10:11 pm #668851
HMC RichParticipantGood Call Catlbob. Let’s have even more fun and expand it to 10 and if Spinal Tap is one of the favorites, then it can go to 11.
My other 5 plus the Spinal Tap waiver.
6. Animal House
7. High Anxiety
8. Trading Places
9. Being There
10. Bowfinger
11. Spinal Tap
June 8, 2009 at 5:44 am #668852

And I agree with Office Space, Napolean Dynamite and Best in Show! I know there are more, will have to think about it…
So many great lists and great reminders, time to fire up the DVR and/or Blockbuster runs!
