Swine Flu is upon us

NaturalMom, I see your nurse and raise you two nurses, an epidemiologist, a hospital architect, and two physicians (neither of whom, admittedly, are virologists), all of whom have confirmed that the masks are primarily useful to prevent infecting others if you’re already sick.

I realize that you don’t know these people, or me, either, and you are of course free to do as you like. I just hope that includes washing your hands frequently, and want to point out that while wearing masks is also recommended for medical personnel, that’s because they’re presumed to be working with infected people.

This whole mask thing is whacky isn’t it? We are told by the CDC that masks may be beneficial if the person with the virus is wearing one; not the healthy person. But then on the front page of the Times (who’s bottom line is making a $) we see a pharmacist and assistant wearing mask. Thank you Seattle Times for adding to the hy$teria.

I wondered about that too, Flowerpetal. It is true that WHO’s guidelines for medical personnel includes wearing masks when working with patients, and I think CDC’s do too. I suppose that includes pharmacists.

I’m just cranky because SOMETHING is blooming this week that I’m allergic to…frickin’ trees.

I was informed last night that I (and probably you too dear reader) are to blame for the outbreak of swine flu.

It seems a year ago conservatives in this country scoffed at the idea of a black president. In fact, said conservatives predicted that when a black man is elected president of the U.S., pigs will fly. The rest is history… swine flu!
