SeekingEurosParticipantI was out of town this week when i started to experience severe tooth pain. I called my dentist and described my situation. They referred me to Pacific Endodonics (in the new building next to PCC). I flew home Thursday AM, and they saw me right away. While their WS office could not do the root canal that day their downtown office could… I am so grateful to Dr. Hanley for the emergency service. They took great care to minimize any pain during the 2+ hour procedure, called me that night to make sure i was ok, and had NO pain the next day. Great addition to WS.

goodgracesParticipantI would not go to any other practice besides Pacific Endodontics. Dr. Etemad (Ali) and Office Manager Extraordinaire Christina are not only the utmost professionals (true scientists-artists), but just about the nicest folks you’ll ever meet. I’ve had two root canals with them and can honestly say they were really wonderful experiences. Truth! :-)

BreezyParticipantThese posts are so timely! I am scheduled for a RC (my first and hopefully my only) this coming Monday. It is not with the office you have mentioned, but I hope the doctor is just as professional and caring. I am not usually a sissy, pretty tough and strong woman, but this procedure has me a little on edge…glad to hear you both are doing so well!

goodgracesParticipantHi Breezy, I would describe myself just like you . . . ‘not usually a sissy, pretty tough and strong woman’ . . . and I felt just as apprehensive as you before my first RC. I think you’ll find, though, that your fears will far exceed the reality. The procedures are long, but they are really not painful at all once you get past the initial numbing shots (which are pretty much the same as you’d get at a dentist, for a filling — quick, not horrible). Afterwards, your soreness should be really well managed by over-the-counter meds.
I think the anticipation is thousands of times worse than the actual RC. I guarantee you will look back and think, “What was I so worried about??”

LisaSecordMemberThere is a reason why your body was screaming out in pain over your root canal. Trust me, I have spent MANY hours in multiple endodontist chairs. It wasn’t until years of going through retreats (one molar required 4) that a holistic dentist explained that a tooth is a living thing and having a root canal is leaving a dead body part in your mouth. When a RT is performed the dentist removes the root, scrapes the tooth pulp clean, and inserts a plug where the root used to be. However, the root is so minuscule there is no way to remove 100% of the bacteria. So there is bacteria that has no way to escape – and because there is no blood flow in the bone structure, your immune system cannot fight the infection. Hence, abcessed root canals. I had all 5 of them extracted. She asked me to do my own research – Weston A. Price Foundation and Mercola both have alot of information. I wish someone had told me this earlier, it would have saved me from dealing health problems not to mention thousands of dollars!

eagleviewMemberLisa, thank you for your informative post. Could I ask who your holistic dentist is? And once you had the teeth extracted…what then? That is my concern…want to avoid root canals, having done extensive research per Westin Price info, etc…but am also concerned about implants. In fact, like yourself, purposely got a tooth extracted to avoid root canal…but now need an implant. So need to try to figure out if usual titanium one would be safe, or lesser known zirconium, etc. Thank you so much for any info or experience…I need to move on this, but am hesitant even about the implants.
Thank you again for presenting this really important info.

Genesee HillParticipantRoot canals are great, but it leaves a dead tooth in the mouth. I will never have another. Titanium implants for me. Always. Expensive, but beats the alternative. Unless you happen to enjoy looking like grandpa (Walter Brennan)on the “Real McCoys”…

SeekingEurosParticipantIve never heard of doing implants instead of a root canal. How do the costs compare? What is the process (i really know nothing about implants). Id love to hear more about why you choose implants. Thanks.

HunterGParticipantI just got a root canal from Dr. Hanley there. I am very happy with his work. Considering what I had done it was a pleasure having him in my mouth for 2+ hours. (Snicker….snicker)
Sorry couldn’t help the joke that presented itself. But aside from jokes, he did great work, was very thorough, and was very kind and patient. I give high recommendations!
