Living.in.the.Wild.WestParticipantWhat a joke! Why do we bother to pay for any Parking Enforcement at all? Here in the lawless Wild West, they only ever patrol about 3-4 roads; California, 35th, Fauntleroy, and Delridge. There have been days where I can drive from one end of California to the other and see 2-4 P.E. Officers, yet take ONE turn down ANY side street and you will see car after car parked illegally. Try calling them on it, and according to supervisor Meyer(spelling?) “Parking Enforcement does not enforce wrong way parking as long as it is not hindering anyone”. So as long as you’re not parking illegally on an arterial, apparently you can break as many parking regulations as you want. I was also informed that they only have one officer per area to deal with abandoned vehicles, and are over 100 vehicles behind, so why bother with the find it fix it app, or the abandoned vehicle on the police website, or calling it in, they won’t get to it. I encourage my fellow West Seattlites to call on ANY and ALL parking violations you come across, so they can see just how out of hand the situation over here has become. I only wish I had a job that I could choose which aspects of my duties I had to do, must be nice.

KBearParticipantThey probably park on the wrong side so they can unload their off-leash dog that rides in their lap without interrupting their phone call.

JKreParticipantWe have people park illegally outside our house all the time, they say to call the police, but that seems like overkill. Meanwhile I’ve received a ticket for parking in my own driveway because my bumper overhangs 2-3inches over the sidewalk.

webshafParticipantI was told(by a supervisor at my job) that opposite side parking was legal on streets that don’t have a line down the middle. And years ago(at least 15 probably) I was told by a parking enforcement officer that it was okay to park on the wrong side on side streets.

Michael WaldoParticipantI am not sure why someone would rant about a car facing the wrong way as long as every other aspect is legal. Abandoned cars are another matter.
I park the “wrong way” in front of my house, which is on a hill, because I have an open bed pick-up and I want the water to drain out the back.February 17, 2016 at 12:51 pm #834261
KBearParticipantParking facing the wrong way is illegal under city and state law. It also requires driving on the wrong side of the road in order to enter and exit the parking space (also illegal.) Just last week I almost got into a collision with some jerkwad who was pulling out of a wrong-side parking space. You can’t see the oncoming traffic when you park that way. People who park on the wrong side are being selfish and lazy.

dhgParticipantKBear is right: You can’t see oncoming traffic properly AND if you do start to pull out and hit another car, it is a head to head crunch, not a glancing side blow. This causes a lot more damage to both cars.

FranciParticipantThey do ticket for wrong way parking. This was a few years ago, but there was snow on the road, I was going down California and hit some ice just before Othello and spun, ended up on the east side of the street, as if I had intentionally parked there. I really thought I’d done well though, I wasn’t blocking a driveway or a bus stop. I figured once the ice and snow melted under my car and/or the hill, I could get it out of there.
The next day I had a ticket that indicated if it was not moved within x hours, it would be towed. I ended up hiring tow truck to pull me out and turn the car so it was headed down hill. My next stop was Courtesy Tire for snow tires.. :)
I did challenge it and it was dismissed. But really?? I couldn’t believe that in those circumstances it was ticketed. It seemed obvious why it was there.

JTBParticipantOn Tuesday I was happy to see a parking enforcement officer writing a ticket for a vehicle parked on Oregon EB near the corner of the bowling alley. About half of the car was past the “no parking east of here” sign AND the front was at least two feet from the curb. It’s already challenging enough for vehicles turning left onto Oregon WB from 39th Ave SW due to a limited view without making it even worse.
