Does anyone know of any place I could get some photos taken? These aren’t actually passport photos, they are photos for a Canadian citizenship certificate, so they have specific requirements about size, etc. I guess what I’m getting at is that this might be a little more complicated than something they could do at Bartell’s or Rite-Aid, so I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions. Thanks.

You can always go to the Post Office at Westwood Village as we did for adults they cost $60.00 and are good for 10 years.

I just take my own picture against a white wall and crop and resize. Works great, and you can make sure you get a good shot!

Yes you can take your own picture, but you still have to go to apply for a passport so might as well get the photo done there as well. Also, there are size requirements for the photos.

    Found this article online:

Do you have to update your Canadian Citizenship photo?

I currently live about 15 minutes away from Detroit, Michigan, and if I traveled there from my city in Canada, it would be by land.

I was told by Passport Canada that Canadians do not require passports to enter the US by land (until 2008), but if you travel by air, you would need to have your passport. Since my Canadian passport expired in April 2007, I’ll have to resort to using my Canadian Citizenship card to cross the border.

The problem is, the photo taken of myself is from when I was 9-10 years old. I’m now 22 years old. I’ve had no problems in the past few years going to the States with just my Citizenship card, but one immigration officer said my photo was too outdated, even though I had other valid photo ID to prove that was me.

My question is this: Do you have to update your Canadian Citizenship photo? And can they deny you entry because you look too young in just the Citizenship card photo? And how can I obtain an updated Citizenship card? Thanks so much

Kingstonsean: The cizitizenship card is not a travel document, but from now until 2008, all you need to travel from canada to the US is proof of your citizenship and govt issued photo id, such as a drivers license…so until 2008, you don’t need a passport if traveling by land and sea.

    Lattemom,

Your right in that you still have to apply for the passport…But you don’t have to pay to have your picture taken. You can take your own picture, and then resize it to the requirements. Why exactly would you pay (get ripped off) to have someone snap a picture of you if you own a digital camera and at the very least the basic software that comes with Windows or that Mac thingy? If you are like (I think) most people you want your picture to be decent, and if you take your own you can make sure of that.

I am fully aware that you can take your own photo when applying for a passport, but we were in a hurry, wanted to beat the rush since we needed the passports reather quickly for an upcoming trip and besides you have to have the picture size exact. For our family the phots that the U.S. Post Office Customs Rep took were great, the color was great and we were all smiling nice, unforced smiles so it worked for us. Maybe not for everyone, especially for people watching the money they spend but for us it worked.

Everyone does what is BEST for them, just because we didn’t take our own photos you don;t need to come down on me so hard. Loosen up!!

Not in West Seattle, but Ballard Camera does a nice job with passport photos. They are digital so you can review it before they print. also you can have glasses on without getting glare. Besides the size needing to be particular, i believe the kind of paper it is printed on also matters – must handle heat.
