I’m planning on replacing my sofa to a new one that fits my new space better. From what I was told at the store there’s a 6-week wait on the model I’m looking at so I have some time to figure out where to off load the old one. It’s still in pretty good condition, I just need to Bissel the seat cushions since denim has made my spot dingy looking. I’m hoping one of my friends on Facebook might be interested. Or perhaps someone on here is looking? It’s a 1998 version of the current Ikea Stockholm sofa in cream color. Don’t let age fool you, my parents divorced a year later and it sat unused at my dad’s (he had a lazy-boy and traveled Mon-Fri for work) until he remarried and new wife didn’t want ex wife’s furniture in their new home. (For real!) I talked her into holding onto everything for another year when I graduated college and started my apartment off with a pretty swanky modern hand-me-down! But it’s apartment sized and I’m ready to fill out my new living room with a sectional.

If I don’t get any interest in my sofa are there any charities that I can donate it to (preferably with pickup)? A friend mentioned yesterday a lot of places won’t take sofas so now I’m worried about not having a backup plan!

tricky, as far as a place to donate, you might consider The Sharehouse:

    http://www.thesharehouse.org/what_take.htm

Items can be dropped off there, as per the schedule on their site, or they can pick-up with their own truck, although they ask for a minimum $25.00 donation, to offset the costs of the pick-up service.

Excellent tip! Thanks!! Bummer that my old computer desk is too big per their dimensions but the sofa will be perfect for them if I can’t find any immediate friends or family in need. I just can’t bare to do the craigslist thing again especially with something in my living room that I don’t feel particularly comfortable showing to strangers.

Sharehouse wasn’t able to take mine two months ago because it was too big, but I was able to get rid of it from posting here. You might also consider Freecycle, or seeing if the consignment shop at Fauntleroy/Alaska is interested. That was going to be my next stop if it didn’t go here.

No problem… just put it along side the curb with a “FREE” sign on it. Should be gone in no time at all :)

    Humor here folks, humor :)

I’m kind of in the same boat. I’ve got a giant green Broyhill sectional that I’m looking to give away. I just joined Buy Nothing West Seattle on FB https://www.facebook.com/groups/377234792422740/ and posted there. And I just read about a website called Donationtown where you can input your zip code and they will find a charity in your area to pick up your items. http://www.donationtown.org/

Good luck, and if anyone is interested in a giant green sectional, let me know! :)
