JanSParticipantyou should talk with the WSB editors…they’ve had an ant problem for quite some time. Sorry to hear about it.

KBearParticipantHave you tried shooting them?

maudeParticipantWe’ve got ants too. First, just one or two but now they come out 5 or 6 at a time. And I dutifully squish their little bodies. We’ve tried the Ortho spray around the base of the house as well as those little gadgets with goo inside. This year we plan on bringing in the big guns – professionals. Oh yeah, ants, you’re going down!

DMHParticipantWe have been battling this problem for years as well. Last year I broke down and decided to call in some pest professionals. I have been very happy with this decision. We currently use Eden Pest Control and they do a great job. Also, they use environmentally friendly pest control methods.

LoveSunshineMemberDMH, do the ants re-appear? How often? How frequently do you have pest control come in? We fought with them for the last two summers with various levels of success. But I dread that this summer is going to much more difficult with the warmer winter and a toddler in the house.

flowerpetalMemberI remember a goodly amount of kudos for Terro which is available at McLendon’s. And thanks for the reminder. We have had a few of these little visitors on our kitchen counters in the morning.

velo_nutParticipantKBear – yes. It ruined the finish on the floor.
Of course, I say that completely in jest as of course now I know you will go crying to animal control that I killed an ant.
I tried battling these guys myself last year and I too think this spring/summer will be worse. Time to call the pro’s.
(and no, KBear, I do not mean prostitutes. Just in case you want to notify the police of solicitation)

WSBKeymasterYes, they are back. We have been joking about them for the past four days or so but that was more from the “if we don’t laugh we’ll cry” department. Our son informed me last night that I needed to look up the advice in the old forum threads from last year, because we needed to follow it lest the ants bodily evict us from our hovel this year.

DMHParticipantLoveShine:
Occasionally we see an ant or two inside the house, normally after a heavy rain, but if we set out the traps they gave us they are normally gone within 24 hours. I will accept a few ants every now again to our previous infestation of what seemed like thousands. ;) Our service agreement with Eden is for them to come out every other month to treat the property. The same guy comes out every time and always calls the day before to let us know he will coming. He always checks with us before spraying to see if there have been problems in any particular area. We also have rodent traps that he monitors for us. I really like this company and they are very responsive if you call them with questions and concerns. The initial treatment to get rid of the ants was very effective so we are basically just on a maintenance schedule now. I can’t recommend this company enough, they saved my sanity. :) They do free estimates so nothing to lose by having them come by.

service dog academyMemberWe have had them to for several years. I found a couple of them last week. I use the Terro too but ive found the most effective way to manage them is to just not leave food sources around. Be careful on the type of pest control you choose to use even with a pest control services. You dont want to end up killing your cat or dog because of a couple of ants in your house. Terro wont harm your cat or dog if they happen to ingest small amounts of it.
Oh and one more thing, watch out for their bite. I had one bite my lip a couple of months ago and ended up with a welt the size of a couple of quarters. Ouch.

wundrgrrrlParticipantNo no say it isn’t so!! I had a terrible issue with them last year and I’m not ready to cope! I still freak out at the sight of a single ant… Now you all have me checking every corner!
