Betty TMemberI lived in a city that the annual community celebration was the drunkest crazyus night of the year. Big money night. Now they close like midnight or 1:00Am and customerss scatter to outer area bars, some just go home. This avoided a lot of problems for the locals. They have heavy police presence at this time. Staying open later might help since we don’t have the police coverage we did have. Seems people’s tempers are short anytime, anywhere. Add few drinks and trouble. Add more time to drink seems like more trouble. I think a trial period would be great.
I wouldn’t want the responsibility of a bartender now days. Longer hours would mean more employees or else tireder bartenders to try to do their job properly. 8 hours behind a bar is hard work.

johnnyblegsMemberJiggers, you’re such a downer. The type of music has nothing to do with it. It’s all about the crowd.
A different analogy – Don’t blame the guns. Blame the people who use them.

JoBParticipantjiggers..
and what am i supposed to be being hypocritical about?
i really could care less about what music they play
and i really do care about safety

JanSParticipantjiggers…your post #25…I believe the city felt that why should they extend the hours. It just gives people more time to drink more, and they all go out on the road anyway. 2am is good enough for me. We don’t need all night drinkers.

WorldCitizenParticipantIt’s not just music, but it’s a factor for sure. It’s really the whole atmosphere the bar owners create that attracts it’s clientele. Bamboo happens to have a (in my opinion) less than desirable atmosphere that caters to a less than desirable crowd. No surprise that a certain element is attracted to the joint. I’m sure the money they’re making in volume makes it hard to justify the change in practices/atmosphere as they will turn off their current customers. And if they DO change their atmosphere/music/practices then it will be hard to get the word out to people they would like to attract as their reputation is pretty set in stone by this point. It’s a bummer of a position to be in.
My guess is not much will change.

SKBMemberJust want to clarify one misconception I see posted up quite often regarding the proposal to extend bar hours:
While an establishment may choose to stay open past 2am and serve food and non-alcoholic beverages until whatever time they choose to close, the laws on serving beer, wine or spirits remains the same. No consumption of alcoholic beverages after 2am – which means last call will still be at a time appropriate to allow guests to be done by 2am.

kootchmanMemberThere should be a bar as close as neccesary as tio make drunk walking reasonable… to get home. Otherwise… we have drunk drivers… I think the Kenney has wine tastings and Musak for the ‘safe” drinkers… I could be wrong…

JanSParticipantSKB…thanks for that clarification

Thanks for the information, clarification. Food after hours could be great. Of course there are always those who don’t want to ‘ruin a good drunk” by filling up with food. Their problem, I’d say. Food after hours would be great and I’ve never heard that information before.

BearsChickParticipantI’m getting pretty sick of the way Bamboo customers are being portrayed. I am a regular patron there and I can assure you I am not “less than desirable” or a thug. I am a local resident, work professionally on Alki and spend most of money here. Many of my acquaintances are regular patrons, too, and they are neither less than desirable nor thugs. All hard working people who would give you the shirt off their back. I’m sorry we aren’t all married, with 2.5 kids and a mortgage. Complainers….we aren’t all the same & you come across incredibly intolerant. Granted, from time to time, there are folks who cause issues at the Bamboo, but they are not part of the regular clientele. Please be aware that when you slam a businesses customers, you are slamming all their customers.

kootchmanMemberYea… BearsChick… we get old, we forget… I drank at zoos in my younger days… and tended bar in a few. Damn they were good times! We had more complaints to the ABC board than any bar in Monroe County NY…. three colleges in a 10 mile radius, and an 18 year old drinking age… louder was better… kick it hard before ya become married with 2.5 kids… it only comes around once. I wouldn’t live near the watering holes of my youth.

BearsChickParticipantI’m 45 Kootchman, and just because I’m a regular doesn’t mean I’m kicking it hard. The regular clientele I know there run from their 20’s to retirement age. If people don’t go to the Bamboo, how can they claim to define the type of people that are regular customers?

datamuseParticipantI thought this thread was about cell phone reception in West Seattle.
August 30, 2012 at 3:16 pm #767983
JoBParticipantdatamuse..
that would make more sense…
BearsChick..
it generally isn’t the locals who cause the kind of violence that has played out at Bamboo…
I don’t know what the problem is..
but i hope the owners are able to solve it.
