On a wave of nostalgia, I recently gathered the family’s old 8mm films to review for possible copying to digital format. Some date back to the 1950s and I have no idea how they’ve held up. And don’t necessarily want to digitize all of them. Anyone have a projector I could borrow/rent/buy/barter to help with this little project? Or recommendations where to search for one in the area?

And while I’m at it, any suggestions about best sources for making the eventual transfer to dvd would be appreciated as well!

When I was getting together old films to show at a family reunion a few years ago, I found a cheap 8 mm projector on ebay. The bulb can be a problem – make sure it’s functional before you buy. I had to buy two projectors because the bulb on the first one was burned out. As I recall, it was very hard to find a bulb from specialty bulb stores.

Sorry, I don’t have the projector any more to lend you. I gave it to my brother in Canada.

For transfers, I always use Victory Studios http://www.victorystudios.com (206) 282-1776. I have used them for many jobs and the quality, service is always super.
