jamminjMemberWe are looking for possible assisted living facilities for my dad.
Does anyone have any experience with any of the Merrill Gardens facilities? Any input appreciated: from staff, food, cleanliness, etc.
Any info on cost would be helpful as well.
Thank you.

luckymom30ParticipantI found these web links hope it helps!

The prices start at $2,000 and they offer a 60 day guarantee just in case it isn’t the right fit.
Also found this link from the Better Business Bureau which gives Merrill Gardens LLC an A rating and in the last 36 months there have been no complaints filed against this company.

mom3MemberOur mom has lived at Merrill Gardens – Admiral for almost 2 years now and we have been very pleased. They have a higher level of care there than most assisted living homes do – and she does need that. This has enabled her to live ‘somewhat independently” in her own apartment longer than she would be able to at other homes in the area -which means that we do not have to move her again when her health declines further.
We have not seen a great deal of turnover in the staff. There is a RN there that oversees the medication of the residents and I have found her to be very helpful if I have any questions or concerns. They also have a conceirge service that I have found useful. This service will be your ‘taxi, personal shopper, “daugher substitue when you cannot be there” person.
I have dropped in at various times and have never found anything to alarm me. It is alway clean and secure.
They do a good job of providing activities for the residents which involves getting them out of the building to various community events, as well as bringing community in to the building. They usually have one or two special meals a month that family is invited to and the chef does a darn good job with the menu. The maintence staff is wonderful to our mom – they will hang pictures, Christmas swags as well as prompt maintence of any problems. Everyone there tries to make it pleasant and watches out for the residents.
More to the point – here are her comments: “They treat us very well here and are very kind.” “They really try to please us.” “They keep this place very clean.”
It has been a good choice for us and I would recommend it to others. Good luck in your search. Having done this I know it is not easy.

jamminjMemberThanks luckymom30 and mom3 for your input. Its tough trying to find the right needs, and making sure the family can afford it. The cost took us by surprise, that’s for sure.

WSBKeymasterGlad to hear all this – Merrill Gardens has sponsored WSB for quite a while, promoting both their West Seattle facilities (Admiral and Triangle). Jamminj, wherever you choose – West Seattle certainly has more than a few care facilities with good reps – I hope it turns out to be a pleasant, safe and healthy place for your dad to be.

ws4everMemberAdmiral Merrill Gardens had a positive atmosphere, and everyone seemed happy there. However, my friend required several unnecessary hospitalizations because medications were missed, (which caused mental confusion and subsequent falls) despite reassurances that a staff person was “following after” to see that meds were taken. The friend is now doing well at Providence Mt. St. Vincent, which has a strong sense of community there among the residents. The physical facility is not as new and pretty as Merrill Gardens, but MSV has a better system in place to monitor that someone is doing well medically.

Merrill GardensMemberThank you to everyone for their kind comments about Merrill Gardens at Admiral Heights. We are proud of our community and the lifestyle that we offer to our residents.
While we always appreciate feedback, we want to shed light on the entry posted above by ws4ever. We want to let you know that Merrill Gardens at Admiral Heights is inspected by the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services every 12-18 months. During those inspections, the State investigates all aspects of the services we provide including our medication administration. DSHS has not found any deficiencies in the medication administration process or the assisted living services offered at Merrill Gardens at Admiral Heights over the past two years. In addition, our own records show that we have not had any medication errors at our community in the past two years. We would be happy to provide any additional information about our community and answer any questions you may have. Please feel free to contact me. Thanks so much,
