In a previous life I cleaned houses , and had quite a few in North Admiral. That was 20 years ago. I charged more than what you want to pay, way back then. You want a lot done for just 12 bucks an hour.I was usually there 4-5 hours, and I worked very hard. I did not do laundry, and I did not clean up after pets. Are you sure that’s all you can afford? Hope you find someone…

just to be clear…I’m not looking for the position – too old for that now ;-)

I scanned job postings on care.com, LinkedIn, and indeed. My wage is middle of the road. The job description was also taken off line. If you google housekeepers job description there are a few that come up and tell you what is typical. The reality as well is this is more than likely more net income than a cleaner for a company makes. Again job postings I have reviewed. It is also higher than min wage and a steady gig. And our house is all hardwoods and low maintenance and I would think ideal for a stay at home mom looking for spending money or a college student. I think you were very fortunate to make what you made 20 yrs ago. I made $2 a hour babysitting and cleaning up after kids which is a lot harder than pets.

    Cgoose,

Please note you are hiring this person as an employee. Legally.

You will need to pay her with a check and L and I and unemployment ect. I don’t recommend the “under” the table way.

If he/she is a business owner and is licensed and insured, I will be surprised they could do the job, the taxes and insurance for being a self employed person, well he/she would go broke on 12.00/hr. I know I own a house cleaning business.

While it may be higher than minimum wage, it is not a “living” wage, but again after taxes it boils down to being “minimum” wage.

You need to be specific about “carpet” cleaning, spot checking or a carpet cleaner? Again whole different insurance issues.

These are serious issues you need to consider.

That’s not middle of road for Seattle, I pay my independent housecleaner 60 for less than 2 hours of work – an I feel darn lucky to have him!

Sorry I have to say I agree that is way too low. We pay $30/hr and don’t have them do laundry or clean up after our pets.

You may get lucky but if you want a good, trustworthy person I recommend reconsidering what you are offering.

Just a simple piece of advice, nothing more intended!

PS: Hardwoods are not low maintenance when it comes to keeping them clean…..
