Can anyone share their experiences with West Seattle gyms and memberships? Particularly membership fees and experiences. I belong to the Westwood 24HR Fitness with a $21.99 per month fee ($23.97 with tax). It’s local, convenient, and -well, IS open twenty-four/seven. Is that the best deal? Does it go any lower? What about that XGym over there on Alki…seems a little small and from the looks of their webpage, pricey. Even the “Y” wanted upwards of $85 per month for a “family program”. My 24HR fee is just for me, the individual, at a single club.

What’s the overall feel/vibe at these places for you?

I used to belong to All Star. I can’t remember their prices, but remember them to be pretty reasonable considering it’s a very nice place. Comparably, the Y is ridiculously expensive. It’s dingy, small and because I’m married, they were going to make me pay for a family membership even though my spouse wasn’t going to use it.

We did quit going to all star though because it can be very busy with bad parking at popular hours, but I suppose they all are.

We pay $89 a month for a family membership at the Y and don’t know the prices for a single person. I have 2 kids and use the childcare regularly and like it alot. Don’t know the prices anywhere else.

All-Star is about $55/month for a single membership. I think it’s a decent value, given that they have a pool, lots of classes and you can use their other gyms around town…but the WS location is probably the nicest. I quit last year b/c their pool and lifeguards were terrible, but the average joe wouldn’t notice that. They get really crowded after 3:30 PM but if you go in the morning before work, it’s pretty quiet.

I belong to All Star at the $55 single rate and love it. They also offer a rate where you can pay the whole year upfront and I think it worked out to around $40. I don’t swim there, but workout frequently at the WS location, take yoga at the downtown location, and had a great experience with a trainer at the WS location – Andre
