AnonymousInactivePlease respond to our need for a band for our fund raiser on April 19th! We would love to have you there!
(Ok, this was started as a joke, I thought JanS would get a kick out of it)
March 28, 2008 at 8:10 pm #620309
JoBParticipanti think he’s in town.. at least, he was:)
don’t know if he reads the west seattle blog though…

andreaParticipantYes, please Eddie, help your local community out!! We and those at PS Lock & Key would be oh so appreciative! :)
(good lord, could you imagine if he did come? to have my HS dreams come true…what a wish!)
March 28, 2008 at 9:45 pm #620311
dtownMemberHe’s about to kick off a west coast solo tour.

WSBKeymasterWell, you might have a chance.
The tour dates are listed here
(scroll down a ways)
looks like his solo tour ends before The Fundraiser (and the PJ tour isn’t till weeks later)

JenVMemberMy friends are in a wonderful Celtic/Irish/Rock/Punk band, I have my feelers out to see if they would be interested..
March 28, 2008 at 10:12 pm #620315
flowerpetalMemberThe practical fundraiser side of me asks “Do you really want Eddie Veder?” Don’t get me wrong, I would love to hear a few melodies by EV at the Admiral Pub. But if word got out that he was going to be there; the Pub would be so swamped and the original cause for the fundraiser would likely be lost. Perhaps someone connected could ask for a donation… a t-shirt? a signed album?, beer and fish n chips with Eddie at the Admiral? These could draw a healthy bid and not spoil the rest of the evening.
Please don’t throw things at me for wearing the “realist” hat here.
March 28, 2008 at 10:15 pm #620316
JenVMemberoh, bummer. they are booked already.
March 28, 2008 at 10:16 pm #620317
AnonymousInactiveflowerpetal – I totally know what you mean. I do have to admit, though, I keep daydreaming that Eddie will just walk in without any heads up!
I think if he ever heard of this blog, or read any of this, that would be the most likely scenario.
March 28, 2008 at 10:16 pm #620318
AnonymousInactiveJenV – Thanks for checking that out! Can your friends, however, recommend any other bands?
March 28, 2008 at 10:26 pm #620319
JenVMembernah…they were a little miffed they came in 2nd after Eddie… j/k. :)
no, they don’t know anyone else available.
I know Tim Turner lives in West Seattle- does anyone know him well enough to ask? He is a great guy as well as a helluva blues musician.
March 28, 2008 at 10:34 pm #620320
JanSParticipantTim Turner does a gig at Redline every Thursday night, as far as I know….mebbe a few of us need to go for a beer and a listen next Thursday?
March 28, 2008 at 10:47 pm #620321
charlabobParticipantSkylark features local bands all the time — don’t know how many are WS but I’ll ask tomorrow when we go for our traditional saturday brunch. it may be a bit farther out than we want — i’ll let you know what i find out (and i won’t make any commitments until people with much better taste than me weigh in.)
March 28, 2008 at 11:01 pm #620322
barmargiaMemberhas anyone thought of emailing maybe Evening Magazine one to get the story out, and maybe they know of a local band that can play. Not sure if it would work, but it would be worth a shot right?
March 28, 2008 at 11:16 pm #620323
AnonymousInactivebarmargia – That is a great idea! I was actually going to wait until we had final details ironed out and then call some radio stations, the West Seattle Herald, etc., places like that. If anyone that reads this forum and has any kind of connections, please do what you can (or what you want) to help us get word out!
I think after tomorrow, we will know for sure all the important details! And, thanks to beachdrivegirl, we will have official fliers to hand out!
March 28, 2008 at 11:19 pm #620324
barmargiaMemberKiss 106.1 used to have, not sure if they still do, a “local bands get no love” bit, so they might know of local bands. But it sounds like you all have it under control and I’m just repeating stuff, sorry :)
March 28, 2008 at 11:23 pm #620325
JoBParticipantbarmargia…
LOL… i think at this point…. we have more enthusiasm than control:)
and that is the good news!
please feel free to add to the mayhem.
we would love to have you show up tomorrow with any ideas.
or just post them here:)
BTW… That’s an open invitation…
March 28, 2008 at 11:32 pm #620326
barmargiaMemberthanks JoB, would love to come tomorrow, but the boyfriend and I are going to up to Bellingham so he can see his new motorcycle that just came in. I know it’s off topic, but I want to brag on him a bit, it’s a Ural with sidecar that he bought while deployed. He had to sell his sport bike before deployment and was bummed, so now he’s very excited about this one. Although it’s supposed to be nasty cold and rainy.
March 28, 2008 at 11:36 pm #620327
JoBParticipantbarmargia..
if you would like to be added to the committee to communicate through email.. we would be glad to add you on.
you can email me at joanne@brayden.org and i will forward your email to newresident who is our communications person:)
I think a trip to bellingham to see a bike with a sidecar sounds like a hoot. wish i was going with you:) I’d be the supportive lady to that one too.
i hope it exceeds his dreams.
March 28, 2008 at 11:48 pm #620328
JenVMemberbarmargia- I lOVE Urals- they are the coolest looking bikes. Good for him- and you- are you going to ride in the sidecar?
March 28, 2008 at 11:50 pm #620329
flowerpetalMemberThe Sound of Speed plays at Skylark occassionally (I think I always misspell that word!) Anyway, SOS has a West Seattle member in the band.
March 28, 2008 at 11:55 pm #620330
barmargiaMemberJenV, yup I will be in the sidecar, but I do have my own Honda, sometimes it’s just nice to be the passenger :) So if any of you see an Artic camo Ural come spring that is us…unless he is doing something stupid in it, then I have no control over him.
Thank you for your offer JoB, I will definitely get to you on that

WSBKeymasterNR, in addition to whatever official news release you send out, the main-page posting with final details post-tomorrow will be seen by every citywide news organization. Assignment desks don’t have time to comb thru all levels of any website but they scan the headlines here (and other news sites). I can’t guarantee you they’ll decide to cover it but here are a few tips:
–offer interviews with Michael Dein in advance — followups with the key figures in the story (businessman fighting his way back from criminal attack) tend to be compelling
–make sure there is clear and easily available contact info for you as the communications person, cell phone and e-mail, on the news release
The “community group coming together” is a good sub-angle too so you may find yourself getting interviewed too.
I’m offering this info just because as the recipient of such news releases for 20-plus years in old media, I can tell you what will keep it out of the round file. Also when you’re ready to e-mail it out, I can give you some specific names and e-mail addresses for the tv types beyond the usual basic “newstips at station dot com” boxes.
I would suggest that creating a standalone page on this site, which I can do if you want to use the URL in publicity, would probably be a good idea too – unless any of you have websites where you already have decided to create such a page. This page would theoretically have links to coverage of the fire, and ongoing toplines about the benefit.

JanSParticipantTR…you are amazingly wonderful to do that, and give all of those suggestions. Thank you, thank you, thank you…
