CallMeAlMemberAny suggestions on who I can contact to have the drywall in my two-car garage replaced? Economically, that is. The drywall now there has been there 50 years and is golden/yellow with age, contains putty patches, and various holes. I’d just like a nice, clean, fresh garage with clean/crisp drywalls.
Thx.

KevinParticipantDrywall is an “arts and crafts” project. This is definitely a do it yourself job if you are at all handy with tools. Drywall is VERY easy to work with! All you need is a cordless drill for drving in the screws, and a razor knife to score the drywall when cutting pieces to fit.
You really don’t even have to mud and tape the joints in a garage unless you are picky about how it looks visually.
If it sounds a little daunting, ask some friends to help you out and have a beer and pizza party.
Also keep in mind that drywall is heavy. You are going to have to get rid of the old material. You might be able to apply the new drywall OVER the top of the old drywall in some or all areas.
One alternative would be to remove the old drywall yourself and then hire someone to install the new drywall. Then do the taping and mudding yourself. Trust me, it’s like working with paper mache.

JeffSavoieMemberDoes this job include the replacement of the ceiling? That changes the difficulty quite a bit.
either way, I’d be willing to look at the job, and make a “fellow blogger” discounted bid on it.

vincentMemberwhy wouldn’t you just paint it? The only reason to leave drywall bare is to save money on new construction in areas that are not traditionally painted. like garages.
This is a ton of work so your drywall will just look crisper. Pay someone to finish the joints briefly and paint it a neutral color.

trensuelaMemberAnother idea CallMeAl,
Stucco.
You can apply the stucco over the drywall and then paint it yellow.
Your garage will then be a much cheerier place.
I hope this helps

Tat2dMemberTwo great West Seattle drywall companies are: Drywall Wizards (206) 938-1460, and Seattle Mudworx (206) 660-9665. Drywall Wizards is owned and operated by my eldest son’s grandparents, and Seattle Mudworx is owned by his (my son’s) father.
