I am eating cottage cheese right now.

    It is sooooo good!

Just plain cottage cheese. Nothing in it. No crazy flavors, no fun package, nothing.

    Just plain loving it.

And NO ONE gets it! I can’t brag about it! Whenever I tell somehow how much I enjoy eating a delicious tub of cottage cheese, they almost always shiver in disgust.

So here I am asking: is it just me? I feel that it is incredibly under-rated.

    Debate away.

My fiance eats more cottage cheese than any human being I’ve ever met. I’m guessing 4 tubs a week. Its not just you…

When I was a kid I liked to put sugar on it. Caveat: I liked to put sugar on pretty much anything.

It does make a good snack although I rarely think of it when shopping. I can’t see it as a side dish for anything. It’s a good substitute for ricotta in cooking if you don’t happen to have ricotta on hand.

Didn’t it used to be a staple of “diet plates” at the Woolworth’s counter? A scoop on a lettuce leaf with a slice of pineapple on top?

I think there was also a lime jello/cottage cheese dish that was popular at family picnics.

It just reminds me too much of the beach, and those women who look like they just sat on a big mound of gravel -then got up.

Don’t know. There’s a bad vibe to it for me. Not saying it isn’t tasty ~it’s just that I can’t look at it for too long, that’s all.

The best part is pouring off the murky liquid after removing the tamper-resistant plastic cover for the first time, and all subsequent times the water pools on the surface of the product.

Sometimes, I add foreign objects to the mix (i.e., some canned pineapples…adds a little kick!), but as mentioned at the top, I love it plain.

My lady-friend (nothing serious my babies, calm down) suggests that I mix equal parts cottage cheese and applesauce together to create an addictivly delicious concoction.

But I haven’t tried it yet.

    Because I don’t trust her.

    Issues…

I absolutely love cottage cheese. Darigold trim cottage cheese (purplish lid) to be exact. I’ve tried other brands and never enjoyed them quite as much; the worst was Nancy’s cultured organic brand – yuck!

My husband enjoys dipping Tim’s Luau BBQ potato chips or French Onion Sun Chips in cottage cheese. Gotta admit – it’s a pretty good combo :-)

Oh, and Costco’s generally the most cost-effective place to buy cottage cheese, as it comes in a 3-lb. tub for less than $6.00.

Just remembered a former roommate who pretty much lived on pretzels dipped in cottage cheese. That, cereal, and chicken strips. She never had to write down a shopping list.

Crushed up bits of Kettle Chips in cottage cheese. Yum.

I’ve been doing the retro comfort food thang lately. So I bought some cottage cheese and mixed it with the lime jello and crushed pineapple all put into a ring mold. Of course there were a few spoonfulls of cottage cheese left over; and I recalled then how delish it is alone and unadorned.

SarahScoot, I am absolutely with you on the Darigold v. Nancy’s! The Trader Joe’s organic isn’t too bad, but for eating plain Darigold trim is the best.

I mix cottage cheese with salsa instead of sour cream–yum.

Now I have to try dipping potato chips in cottage cheese. Yay, I know what to have for lunch!

LOVE cottage cheese. Just had it for lunch myself and cut up cheddar chunks to add to it.

Love using it as a dip for Pringles too. Or Wheat Thins.

Darigold, large curd is the best.

Cottage cheese rocks no ands ifs or buts about it. A really good snack for right before bed as it assists in fat burning and may boost HGH production so one can like get big and green.

me too, me too! I love cottage cheese! I go the route of the low fat Trader Joe brand, which works for me. I like to dip wheat thins (excellent choice Tammi), pita bread, carrot sticks, celery, just about anything really! Mmmm. I want some now!

YUM! I like mine with lots of pepper. But then I put lots of pepper on pretty much everything. But dipping kettle chips in it is also darn good! I usually go for the lucerne (safeway) 2% or 1%. I agree that the Nancy’s is yucky – too sour tasting.

I hate cottage cheese but I’ll eat Ricotta in a heartbeat.

Btw, if you want to keep cottage cheese fresher longer, turn it upside down. The cheese creates a seal with the lid, keeping air out. Air is the enemy.

Bikefor1: I love cottage cheese (as stated) but strongly dislike ricotta. The worst is ricotta cheesecake… to expect that lovely, creamy New York cheesecake flavor and be accosted by the flavor of bland, dry ricotta cheesecake should be criminal! ;-)

When I was a kid, we used to take half a cantaloupe and fill the hollow where the seeds were with cottage cheese. Eat the bowl along with the cottage cheese.

I too prefer my cottage cheese with course bits of freshly cracked black pepper on it.

I could practically live on cottage cheese w/ freshly cracked black pepper – thought I was the only that did that. Sometimes I put so much on the cottage cheese turns a disturbing shade of gray. Delicious!

Wow, I thought I was the only closet Cottage Cheese Lover (CCCL?). I may have it once or twice a year in the fridge since my wife won’t touch it. As a kid I would add pineapple for that juicy kick to it.

Mmmmm, I may need to pick up 6-pack of CC at Safeway this weekend.

i remember cottage cheese as one of the ingredients in the first guacamole i ate:)

i had forgotten about cottage cheese and Cantaloupe… i have cantalope but have no cottage cheese because hubby doesn’t eat it…

when i do buy it i also buy those little cans of pinapple made for kid’s lunches… it’s just the right amount to mix in a bowl:)

i think i’ll go find something for lunch.

The best energy boost breakfast I have ever had is to make some instant oatmeal, mix in cottage cheese and cinnamon, and top with almond slivers. It is like spinach for Popeye, especially on cold rainy days.

I typically mix it with yogurt and cinnamon, sometimes also granola or cereal. Also like it on toast with fresh tomato slices. MMMM!

Oh, and just for the vote, I absolutely prefer Trader Joe’s lowfat.

My husband eats insane amounts of cottage cheese. I really enjoy it too, but really need to limit dairy, so I don’t eat it much. But when I do, I take frozen blueberries, microwave them until warm and soupy and then pour the cottage cheese on top. Fortunately, my favorite cottage cheese ever is a NYC brand (Friendship no-salt-added) and I can’t get it here, so I’m less tempted.
