kayoParticipantCool! Thanks B Squared!

natinstlParticipantTried it last night even though I told myself I should wait until they iron out the kinks. What the heck, I didn’t want to cook dinner. I did take out since I live down the street. It was definitely busy and they are obviously still in an adjustment period. Those that called in had to wait and a few orders were wrong or they ran out of things. One man’s poor food went out with the delivery driver so they had to re-make his order. I was a bit disappointed they ran out of steamed white rice, but they gave me fried as a substitute.
That being said the food was good and they tried to make it up to folks whose orders they screwed up. They gave it to them for free in some cases.
You may want to wait another week before trying or remember to check your order.

kDycuMemberJust had lunch- yum! SO stoked we have a decent Chinese place in West Seattle now (not to mention delivery!!). Service was a tad slow, but again, day 3 for them so I think that’s okay. They did mix up the apps on my me and my sister’s plates, but hey we were sharing anyway no big deal.
For spice lovers– it’s definitely “white people spicy scale” and not the “asian spicy”. Next time I’ll ask if they can do me an 8 out 5 stars. :D

CMPParticipantRe. MapoTofu: Sichuanese Restaurant in the ID does make that dish. They’re located at 10th & jackson in a strip mall, and also have a restaurant in Redmond (and two in Plano, TX oddly enough, which I did actually visit when I was in Dallas). I ordered it at the Seattle location since I’d never had it before and thought it sounded good, but my friend’s dish was much tastier. Again, first time, so I can’t confirm its authenticity, so you’ll have to investigate and report back to us! And according to their website, they do both a vegetarian tofu-only version and one with pork. Makes me think I should have gone with the pork, maybe I would have liked it more?!

dapuffinParticipantThanks, Anonyme! I used to go to Judy Fu’s for dumplings and other goodies, but started getting massive MSG headaches every time I ate there, so they went off of my preferred list. These days I hit up Szechuan Noodle Bowl in the ID pretty much on a weekly basis for dumplings, spicy sauce wontons and/or cold sesame noodles. Humble place, super inexpensive and really (IMHO) good eats. ;)
Back to your regularly scheduled discussion…

dapuffinParticipantSorry! Posted twice!
April 5, 2013 at 1:37 pm #787394
anonymeParticipantCMP, I looked for that restaurant about a month ago and could not find anything in the 10th & Jackson Mall by that name. Every restaurant had “Hong Kong” in the title, and no “Szechuan/Sichuan”. I asked several people, but no one knew. Are there more restaurants than what is on that first floor?
I had lunch at Chopstix yesterday, MaPo tofu & Szechuan string beans. The MaPo tofu tasted OK, but was not like any traditional version I’ve ever had. Frozen peas & carrots were an odd addition, and I swear they used hamburger instead of pork. The string beans, on the other hand, were perfect. Fresh and spicy, with just the right amount of crunch.
dapuffin, thanks for the tip on Noodle Bowl. I love going to the ID, so I’ll try that next time (instead of Kaname!).

JoBParticipantanonyme.. it’s in the SE corner on the N side of Jackson
and the noodles alone are worth the trip

squareeyesParticipantI got kung pao chicken and bbq pork fried rice last night. Agree that the spice level is low – I got three stars on the chicken and it had virtually no heat (3 chilis in the container). My considerable leftovers may be spicier after a night in the fridge. I wouldn’t say the food was out of this world, but it was good and of good quality, and exactly what I was expecting. So thumbs up for my first visit.
The true test for me will be the next visit when I try mongolian beef. I’ve had great and I’ve had inedible so that dish is my meter for quality.
mannamc: I emailed you a .pdf of the menu for your menu website.

mannamcParticipantThanks squareeyes! With a one year old in tow, I’m not getting out to as many restaurants as I’d like these days.

CMPParticipantHere’s a link to Sichuanese Restaurant. I went in November and it’s on the NE corner of 10th & Jackson, west of Tamarind Tree. It’s in a one-story strip mall with a small parking lot and, if I recall correctly, a Metro stop right out front. Their website should definitely help out!
April 5, 2013 at 10:25 pm #787399
anonymeParticipantUnless every business in the strip mall has the same address, this restaurant appears to have several websites; no wonder I’m confused. This link shows a restaurant with the same name and address, but it’s mapped as being located inside the Asian Plaza:
I’m kind of grateful for the confusion. While searching, I found a list of health violations and fines for this address. It’s sizable, ongoing, and thoroughly disgusting.

bsmommaParticipantWe got some take out on Sunday……. This is my take on it:
Pork fried rice: Yuck. It looked more than tasted like it was cooked in a TON of soy sauce. Just rice and pork. No egg or peas & carrots.
Sweet & Sour Chicken: Chicken was awesome! Sauce was blan with a tad to much ginger.
Almond Chicken: Again, chicken was good but sauce was VERY blan and the “crisp” on the chicken was quickly lost once sauce was on it.
Chicken Chow Mein: Very good!
Mongolian Beef: flavor was alright. Beef was way to tender for my liking. Almost felt like “mush” not in a “melts in your mouth” kind of way.
Vegetarian Egg Rolls: Again, blan. Only cabbage and bean sprouts.
No fortune cookies sent home. :(
I hope they take the feedback and make some adjustments. I WANT to LOVE them!

sacatoshParticipantGot delivery from them on Saturday mid-afternoon. First, the young lady on the phone was as nice as could be, and is still learning where things are in WS. She’s excited to be working here and loves the experience she’s had so far.
.
They *DO* deliver to Westwood!! Delivery took approximately 40 minutes, and he young man who came to our door was polite and the food hot.
.
We got the following dishes:
.
1. Egg Rolls – vegetarian or pork. I chose vegetarian, and they were crispy and tasty, didn’t even need the dipping sauce. The wrapper was a thin, crispy wrapper, not a thick breaded wrapper.
.
2. House Special Fried Rice – delicious and full of little bits of pork, bbq pork, shrimp, chicken, carrots, peas, egg.
.
3. Mu Shu Pork – fantastic! Veggies were fresh and crunchy, pork was nice big chunks not overly fatty.
.
4. Orange Chicken – also tasty. It was crispy fried, but without skin. Mostly white meat chicken, which is my preference. The orange sauce wasn’t overly sweet, and there was plenty of chicken in the chicken to sauce ratio.
.
5. Mongolian Beef – this was not my favorite, though the execution was just fine. I’m not an onion eater, and it was basically just beef and onions. I picked out some beef, and that was tasty and cooked just right. The spouse ate the onions.
.
Fortune cookies (2) and steamed rice came with the meal. The fortunes were actually more modern than I’ve seen previously and I really chuckled over mine. If I could remember it, I’d tell you, but I can’t.
.
I did not notice any MSG-type side effects, but someone who is truly allergic would need to double check.
.
All in all, GREAT! Compared to the (no) options previously, it was a 5-star dinner. Compared to all the Chinese food I’ve eaten in my life, it was in the top 30% or so. We will definitely order from them again, likely on a semi-regluar basis. I’m thrilled to have not just Chinese food, but quite decent Chinese food. Delivery is a massive bonus!

CeeBeeParticipantI was prepared to be disappointed, but asked anyway “do you make your own potstickers” and was delighted that they do. The young lady serving me was so excited that I even asked, they are proud that they do make their own. Big ‘uns! I also had the Mu Shu pork and it was a great mix of the veggies and pork, not all cabbage filler.
I also watched the couple across from me, I don’t know what they order (if it was a dinner selection or ala carte), but they handed over a coupon and ended up with so much food it was going to feed them for 3 more meals. I will definitely be going back.
April 10, 2013 at 2:47 pm #787403
JoBParticipantthe Sichuanese Restaurant could be on 12th not 10th… it is in the SW corner of a strip mall on the north side of Jackson….
i even drive there for take out
April 10, 2013 at 5:10 pm #787404
squareeyesParticipantGot take-out again last night. This time mongolian beef, ginger scallion pork, and vegetable fried rice.
Mongolian beef had great flavor and beef was extremely tender (I get what you were saying bsmomma). I was really pleased that the beef wasn’t large sinewy chunks so will certainly have again.
I’m not a fan of ginger in savory dishes so the ginger scallion pork wasn’t my choice. That being said it wasn’t bad. Someone who really likes ginger in savory wouldn’t have any complaints.
As for the vegetable fried rice I would have preferred a lot more vegetable in it but it was otherwise good.

SueParticipantsquareeyes, was it any less crazy there than when we were both there last week (in terms of wait and their level of being flustered)?
April 10, 2013 at 9:48 pm #787406
squareeyesParticipantYeah, super quiet last night (8pm), only a very few tables occupied and nobody else waiting for take-out although phone orders were coming in while I waited.
April 11, 2013 at 1:01 am #787407
CeeBeeParticipantSue, I was there on a Monday, dead quiet from 6 to 6:30 and then blam, every table filled up. Do not sit near the entry to the kitchen, you’ll hear pots banging and cleaver whacking very very loud. Next time I”ll try and sit in the back. I was actually on assignment to find a place for the Morgan Festival planning group to meet and eat, and there are two great large table/spaces in the back room, in case anyone wants to have dinner meetings of 6 people or so.
April 11, 2013 at 1:31 am #787408
JanSParticipant“cleaver whacking”…lol…I can hear it without even being there :D
April 11, 2013 at 1:49 am #787409
booogieMemberGot delivery last night. Took an hour and a half. The food was truly awful. Reminded me of Chung King. Asked for 5 star. There was no spice. The food was soggy and bland. No flavor. The vegetables were all over cooked. Very Americanized Cantonese food. Save your money. I would have loved it to have been good.
April 11, 2013 at 2:17 am #787410
JiggersMemberSince moving from Hawaii a long time ago, and having been both to Vancouver,BC and San Francisco where Chinese food is far superior, Chinese food here sucks. Honest truth. People who have never had Chinese food outside of Seattle haven’t a clue what great tasting Chinese food really is. There is always something missing or not right. But hey… that’s just me.
Too bad that Doong Kong Lau Hakka Chinese style on Aurora shut down after being open for decades. The best ever out here.

datamuseParticipantJiggers, I found a place down in Lakewood of all places that is awesome. I can’t remember the name but will try to track it down. (I have had Chinese food in Vancouver, SF, and China, so, y’know… ;)
