After 7 years of using the same LG, I now have a new cell phone. It’s not “smart”; however, neither am I! Where may I recycle this LG locally? I have an envelope to send it to Michigan for recycling, but would prefer to keep it close to home.

    Thank you!

re-pc on 6th ave south appears to be the closest place (that’s also open saturdays) in the king county “take it back network” that will recycle cell phones:

    1565 6th Ave. S

    Seattle, WA

    Mon-Sat: 10am – 7pm

or you could google cell phone donations for soldiers abroad who may not be able to afford a new phone. hertz equipment rental in ballard has a drop box for those, and i’m sure there are more scattered around the city.

Take your old or unused cell phones and other small electronics to Roxhill Elementary School, the school will recycle the item for you and get much needed money for our students. 252-9570.

Don’t forget to wipe the phone and remove the SIM card. Unless you want your personal details out in the wild.

Take it to Target. In the return area there are bins for recycling cell phones.

Check with the Radio Shack in the junction. They had a program that provided donated, used, cell phones for women who were in shelters as victims of domestic violence. I don’t know if that program still exists.

This was in a daily bulletin from Chief Sealth last week:

Do you have any old shoes that you don’t need? Do you have an old cell phone that is just sitting around? Global Leadership class is starting a used shoe drive and is also collecting used cell phones and electronics for recycling. Look for the colorful collection boxes in the cafeteria and library. Bring those shoes and phones in starting tomorrow! (Noah Zeichner, nczeicher@seattleschools.org)
