    Good Morning,

If you have ever dealt with cancer, then you know the stresses it can cause. I am asking…no begging, please contact your city council and mayor about this very important issue.

    https://www.seattletimes.com/opinion/letters-to-the-editor/soda-tax-impact-on-cancer-patient/

They have essentially told me to “go screw myself as the revenue is more important” (Bruce Harrells office).

Seattle has taxed many residents to fund the pet projects of downtown and everyone knows this will go straight to the general fund….like every other tax they push. Don’t believe me, ask the schools where all the money is, that supposedly we were taxed to support!!

PLEASE help a loved one or maybe just support a good cause. This is not about being able to buy a 20 oz bottle of coke for $3.00 but to correct the City Councils opinion of sick people and their plights.

Here is a real life effect for my partner: Case of Gatorade at Costco went from $10.39 to almost $30. Really?

    Mayor Jenny Durkan – jenny.durkan@seattle.gov
(Mayor Durkan won’t even acknowledge and appears to stuck her head in the sand)

Bruce Harrell, President of City Council – bruce.harrell@seattle.gov
(Bruce Harrell, his office told me they were not interested in addressing this)

Lisa Herbold, West Seattle rep – lisa.herbold@seattle.gov
(Lisa voted to tax diet soda, but that didn’t go through, so although she didn’t support the tax, its only because it did not include her “add-on”)

Thanks for reading and feel free to provide thoughts and comments or suggestions to help give this traction.

    Bruce

Did you notice that several people have responded to your other post, Bruce? You might find their suggestions helpful and maybe get more response and “traction” if you keep the discussion in one place.

brukeste: You did not respond to my posts on other threads. You are intent on linking sugary drinks with cancer recovery and argue that prices should be cheap for all sugary drinks in order to help the sick. Given that there are alternative drinks you can whip up in a New York minute that are far healthier than Gatorade, I would argue that this tax is doing you a favor as its giving you a push to get it done.

If you or maybe a friend have a COSTCO card, travel to a store outside of Seattle (Tukwila?) and purchase in bulk. There is a Safeway on 128th/1st Ave in Burien and a Fred Meyer a bit further down on 1st that you could purchase the Gatorade at.

I do understand being brand specific. Even a slight difference in taste, smell or consistency can make consumption impossible for someone dealing with cancer.

Roxbury Safeway is outside of Seattle. They’ll double bag it in plastic or paper, too!

i believe the tax will be levied on Seattle distributors which will likely mean that you will have to go quite a bit further than the city limits to find sugary drinks that are cheaper
