AshleyMemberHello Everyone I just got pre-approved for my first home and looking to buy. Any advice?? Also What do you think about gatewood, arbor heights or west seattle in general?

celeste17ParticipantHaving grown up here in West Seattle I am a little biased but I think West Seattle is great. We are close to downtown and Southcenter and other places. The only draw back is if you need to get anywhere during rush hour it can be a real pain.

guidosmomMemberGood luck. I got pre-approved in September and started looking right away. I got a notice my duplex was being torn down and townhomes would be built in place so had to be out by January. We found several houses we were interested in and made three offers. Two we found out were going through bankruptcy so had liens on them, and we wouldn’t be able to purchase them in time. The last didn’t come close to passing inspection, something we learned is very common right now. :( We looked in Seaview, Highland Park, Highpoint, and near Westwood. We ended up not buying and are going to rent another year or so… good luck!

mom3MemberGatewood and Arbor Heights are all great neighborhoods and I wish you the best of luck. It is a lot of work but a lot of fun figuring out where to put the couch etc.

livingonthebeachMemberAshley, so much depends on your price point and “must have’s”. House, townhouse or condo, # of beds and baths, yard, sidewalks, style of home, close to parks or shopping, etc.. There are so many variables.
All in all, WS is a great place to live. My recommendation is to take a walk in the neighborhoods you can afford and are drawn to. Talk to neighbors. After that, chat with a real estate agent and have them show you what’s out there.
I would be happy to recommend a great WS agent if you want to PM me.
Good luck!

EmmyJaneParticipantHi Ashley… I assume you posted this because you wanted to buy MY condo, which I conveniently want to sell? :-) JK, but PM me if you’d like to go to coffee and I’d be happy to walk you through the process of buying your first home. I did it for the first time 4 years ago and there’s a lot to know!
