    From King5 News.

Great idea. I imagine they have an edit feature to edit out all of the stop signs and stop lights they blow through, though.

Yea… they would be interesting… wonder if a stop sign running cyclist could have his camera confiscated … and all the traffic infractions during the ride are ticketed. Although the BC paper said, it also makes the cyclist more traffic diligent knowing his or her actions are also being taped.

An edited video wouldn’t be admissible in court. The bicyclist would have to turn over the entire video to law enforcement. This practice isn’t only limited to cyclists. Security companies and even regular folk have been adopting this technology as the price point drops.

You’ve got to laugh when people pull out the same tired bicyclists and stopsigns line. As if 99% of people behind the wheel don’t break the law every time they drive (when was the last time you went over the speed limit? The last time you drove) and as if those driving laws being broken don’t kill over 30,000 Americans every single year. The mental disconnect is so astounding that you really have to wonder, is the mass hysteria around a culture that enables laziness really to the point that we would rather forfeit so many innocent lives to perpetuate it? And then make pointless jibes that aren’t even of a comparable scale against a segment of the population which isn’t committing mass murder? Sounds like sociopathy to me.

I agree, Smythe. But only to a small point in nowheresville. I live near a four way stop on a West Seattle arterial. Many of the automobiles stop at the darn stop signs. Many don’t. I have yet to see an “English Racer” clad in wimpy, silk, long underwear even slow down for the stop signs.

The mass murder bit, is, shall I say, a bit odd.

I am talking about bicyclists blowing through stop signs and stop lights.

Smythe, if you deny this is a problem, perhaps you are the one dis-connected. From reality.

The line isn’t so tired, because it’s still true. Motorists routinely observe bicycles blowing through red lights. So shouldn’t the bikes have visible licenses, enabling me to bring my video to the police and have them cited?

Hmmm, then there’s driving while talking on a cell phone. Stand on a street corner and take photos showing the front license and the driver yakking…

But don’t ever speak to a bicyclist about his scofflaw conduct. Unless you really want an earful of attitude. Like being called a sociopath.

I’d settle for not having to read the sweeping generalization that EVERY person on a bicycle blows stoplights and stop signs every single fricking time this topic comes up, even when it’s completely irrelevant to the discussion at hand.

Really, people. Get another horse, this one’s dead.

I brought the topic up and every bicyclist I have seen going downhill to the south at 55th and Genesee has blown through the stop sign. Every frickin’ one.

Sadly, datamuse, that isn’t the only intersection with traffic control the lance wannabes blow through.

If it is a dead horse, datamuse, it is still kickin’ pretty hard…

Though, not a life changing event…for me. Just a lousy observation.

People on bikes break the law. People in cars break the law. Only one of those groups kills 10x more than died in the 9/11 attacks, annually, unopposed, year in and out. That psycho who shot a bunch of people at the movies killed about 10% of the number who died in vehicle crashes that day. Which made the news? Which was simply ignored? A death is a tragedy. The death of millions is a statistic.

The article is from the NY Times. The cameras make sense: bicyclists are being harrassed! I’m sure we could hear some doozy stories here.

Maybe they are being harrassed for wearing those little shorts! Construction workers whistling and making harrassing cat calls. Then realizing that thy are whistling at a MAN* in those spandex shorts! (*well kind of)

I mean come on people, seriously? You think you are making yourself that much more aerodynamic? Nobody wants to see the outline of your junk…put on some damn shorts! Have you no shame??

Sorry smythe, just trying to get away from the stop sign line! :)

@smythe. Any reason you don’t start your own thread regarding your pet issue? And for starters add some statistics. 61 percent of fatal crashes are single vehicle accidents. 51 percent were not wearing seatbelts. The majority of deaths are preventable. You can’t stop stupid.
