miwsParticipantThanks for the update, JoB.
I think I recall T telling me his birthday is in April, so a few more weeks of him being a nice, innocent child, until he turns into OMGATEENAGER!! ;-)
And, if he’s still in Camp when that time arrives, I’m looking forward to going down there and harassing him about it! :-p

KevinParticipantEven if small, the two new wood stoves sound like a GREAT addition to the NV site! We can only hope that someone will come along with a larger full size stove(s) in the near future!

JoBParticipantKevin..
the reason i chose to purchase these two smaller stoves is to give them time to educate one another about how to build smaller cooking fires so that when we find a good cookstove or two they won’t burn the fireboxes out trying to build campfires in them… and so they can get in the habit of replacing that pot of water when they are done cooking.
hot water is an incredible luxury at Nickelsville…
and even small stoves will be very useful for cooking
I am glad miws has proclaimed the success of Operation Woodstove
but operation cookstove is still simmering..
waiting for the right ingredients …
all i need is a good but not too good cookstove or two
and money ;->
and to think that at one time those would have seemed insurmountable obstacles
one would think that after months of working at Nickelsville my optimism would have dimmed
instead.. thanks to the generosity and ingenuity of West Seattle… it’s grown:)

JanSParticipantso…a question..are they in need of heavy duty pots like cast iron Dutch ovens, etc.?
If so, I will start scouring freecycleseattle. That’s where I found mine…

adelle1016ParticipantJoanne: you are tireless for the residents of NV. Thanks for bringing these stoves to NV. A shout out to my new friend Vicky, who learned of NV from my post on the Burien Blog where I thanked Burien Bark for their gravel and wood chip donation. Vicky donated to the wood stoves. And… Jeff from Burien Bark, who got $50 more than needed to cover his NEXT donation of wood chips, gave the ‘extra’ towards the wood stoves AND MATCHED THE $50. Now on to the cook stoves!!

i confess to not following your link..
the way it is embedded made it suspicious to me
however… i agree.. some kind of structure over the cooking stoves would be a good thing
even better would be some kind of structure that could contain a wood stove and become a heated space.
we are currently trying to figure out how we could safely build some kind of partially screened movable canopy structure for the cooking stoves..
it seems easy until you start thinking about how you are going to anchor it without attaching it to the ground…
trust me.. the people working on this would welcome suggestions…

JoBParticipantI don’t know if the stoves are up and running yet.
we solved some logistical problems yesterday
but i was too sick to go to the camp today to see if the solutions had been implemented
i will let you know how this experiment is working out just as soon as we get them up and running..
