We’ve gone to New Luck Toy three times since they opened but haven’t actually been able try them out yet. It’s packed!! Have you succeeded? How long did you wait? What did you think?

We went there a week or so ago. I thought the place had a great vibe. I arrived a little after 5:00 and I had to hang out on the Skee Ball machine (which was out of order at the time) for 10-15 minutes waiting for a table in the front. It seemed like to best spot to hover over several tables and the position made it clear that I had the next open table. I saw several groups of people come and go due to the wait. That’s a good problem for a new restaurant to have but hopefully one that can be resolved at some point. Eventually I spotted a guy leaving the bar in back and I snagged two seats. It took about 15 minutes to secure two seats at the bar. I felt lucky. I was pleased with everything I tried from the menu (I loved the General Tso’s chicken). I saw a number of folks around me with a wide variety of really good looking food. I have to laugh, though, because they serve a half duck called “the Lucky Duck.” Somehow I got the feeling that the truly “lucky” duck is the one that is still flying around and hasn’t been split in half and plated. I’d still get it, though, it looked great. I tried one of the Singapore Slings and it was tasty and wasn’t just a slushy – booze could be detected. It appeared that all the food is served on disposable trays which I wasn’t crazy about BUT considering the concept is a “bar that serves some food” and since they appear to have a pretty small kitchen it’s probably related to dishwashing, plate storage and busing logistics more than an anti-tree-hugger statement so I was able to deal with that. The bartenders seemed cool although quite busy. I think it is a great new spot and I think they have a hit on their hands. We will certainly go back and will pay more attention to the specifics of each dish (if we can get in).

We went there Tuesday night and were able to walk right in and get a table. They had good music on, and it was nice to take a break from election coverage. We had the salt-pepper-and-old-bay shrimp, the double-garlic bitter broccoli, and the house chow fun, all delicious. Good drinks, great service, and though they’re not doing take-out food, if you have leftovers they do have lids for the containers the food comes in. Still miss the Pan-Africa Grill, but we’re so happy to have this nearby.

Five times a charm! We finally found a good time to get seats at the bar last week. After we were seated the place packed out with bunches of people waiting. I had a cocktail which I enjoyed, and the inexpensive wine by the glass was good as well. We got the dry fry green beans which we loved, chow fun we liked, mongolian beef which was good on the night, but seriously salty as leftovers the next day, and our least favorite which was the salt pepper and old bay shrimp only because they were fried with the armor was still on, so very messy to peel; the flavor was great.

I’ve been there a couple times and loved it both times. The cocktails were tasty and strong. I like the decor. My only complaint has been that the music is waaay too loud and that is coming from someone who has been to a lot of concerts and festivals. For a space that small to have the music as loud as they do, it almost hurts the ears. You almost need to shout at people right in front of you when standing in the back.

However I will def be back because everything else is great and the front of the house doesn’t have loud music.

I do enjoy this spot, the only thing I hate is that it gets REALLY crowded Thursday-Sunday evenings and there is a Skeeball machine taking up valuable table real estate, I know they market themselves as a “bar that serves food”; however, it seems like their food is a big draw for people. Perhaps they could consider removing the entertainment and adding a few High Top tables that could accommodate more folks, otherwise, great place!

Same here, whalewatcher. Crowded and SO loud. Not really worth it for us.

No take out. Their concept is that they are “a bar that serves some food.” Not a typical Chinese restaurant.

I like that they have no takeout. Makes the in-house service better. If anyone has been to places that do a ton of smartphone orders it is chaos. Go to Pizzeria 22 on a weekend night and you’ll see like 4 tablet/smartphones connected to individual apps like Eats24, UberEats, Grubhub, etc … It’s madness and orders are coming in from each service, plus phone orders, and dine in guests. Everyone is confused and orders are constantly incorrect. I like what New Luck Toy is doing to be honest.
