She was identified, and we added that information to our coverage. Police were very clear that there was no indication this was a suspicious death, but the final determination rests with the Medical Examiner, where toxicology tests were awaited, and that can take weeks. It will never just be “announced” so all I can do is inquire from time to time.

The most important followups in my personal opinion were those that came in the comments, including this one:

Update: Woman found dead in the water off Beach Drive SW; police are not investigating as a homicide, so far

Thanks for following up on this. I don’t know what I would do without this blog. I’ll continue to pray for her family.

I am the daughter of the woman, carol Arnold, who was found in the water.

We are all still trying to understand why my mom went to the beach in the dark and ended up in the water. We have several theories, and have to be patient for medical examiner report, but we are accepting that we may never fully know.

She had many health concerns and at times became disoriented, and we believe that May be what happened that fateful morning.

If anyone saw her walking from California ave down Jacobson early that morning, or on the walk way by Oregon street and beach drive, we would love any info.

My mom was the most giving, caring, loving selfless person I know. She was terrified to be in the water but admired its beauty from the shore. She leaves behind three children, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren whom she loved.

This place at the beach where she was found held great meaning to her and comfort. We just can’t understand why she was there alone, in the dark, without her car and how she needed up in the water with no evidence of a fall or obvious health emergency. We will know more hopefully in the coming weeks, but without a witness, we will never fully know what happened.

Thank you to the person who spotted her in the water, and to the responders who tried to rescue her.

Thank you to all who have been concerned and wishing us the family well. We appreciate your thoughts.

I miss my mom very much and just wish she could still be here to enjoy life with her family. She’s where she always wanted to be, in heaven, pain free and with all who went before her.
