FranciParticipantSo I tried to create an account today in order to purchase a gift card. Turns out someone else has already created an account with MY email address. When I click the ‘forgotten’ password link, it sends me an email in a foreign language.
Haven’t they heard of verification? You send an email to the address, get a reply, to verify that correct email was entered. I’ve had this email address since way before AirBnB became a thing. Very frustrating!!

FranciParticipantSo they allowed someone named Flavia to create an unverified account using my email address. Despite the fact that I can prove that it belongs to me, they have to launch an investigation before I can create an account – because you have to have an email address to create one. I’m not really keen on creating a temporary email account.
Wow what a lousy business practice/model that is!

seaopgalParticipantGoogle is your friend. If all you want to do is purchase a gift card, create a gmail account, get the card and then just delete the accounts. Or keep it to use for one-time stuff like this so you don’t have to monitor it. Really useful, and won’t delay your plans as you wait for the investigation to free up your real self. (Although maybe you just want to forget airbnb altogether at this point, and give your money to someone else.)

birdrescuerParticipantI’ve had nothing but good to excellent experiences with airbnb all over the world. All organizations, especially big ones like this, have glitches. Don’t throw out the baby with the bath water.
