Yup, they will. And I’ve done that too since school started!

I remember reading someplace – maybe it was in a WIRED article? – about how consistent feedback loops are very effective way to change behavior. Which is to say, the “your speed” displays are probably a better way to go if your desire is to reduce speeds through sensitive areas. But then, those don’t produce revenue. :-)

    maplesyrup..

    yup.. there’s the rub.

the stock value of health insurance companies rose right after Obamacare was passed..

this “reform” turned out to be a sweet deal for insurance companies

they can have it both ways.. increase their profits by cutting our benefits and raising rates

and blame Obamacare which they crafted..

there are some good things buried in this legislation

but it definitely wasn’t he reform we needed

I LOVE Greek Gods but the singles are $1.59 and 270 calories per so it’s a rare treat but I especially love the Fig. We have been eating a lot of Muller and it’s really good. I think it’s better than Chobani so I stopped buying it -thank goodness! Sorry about the hives, yuck.

    “Let’s get the Bastards.”

I just had a kitchen fire in my oven from some bacon grease that had dripped down into the oven while making bacon wrapped figs with goat cheese (yum). It didnt go out by just closing the door to the oven so I had to quickly make the decision to use the fire extinguisher to prevent it from spreading or damaging the oven.

Its a fairly large kitchen extinguisher and I only used a single small squirt since the fire was (thankfully) entirely contained in the oven. Im positive there is plenty of chemicals left in it so I figured it would be cool if it didnt go to waste.

So… if you want to teach your kids how to use a fire extinguisher properly please stop by the dog training studio this Wednesday evening between 6 and 9 pm to pick it up. It will be sitting out on the front entrance steps free for you to grab. First come, first serve.

This is from way back in 2003, but still intriguing:

“The Russian authorities have asked Interpol to help trace a tycoon accused of threatening to kill a senior official in a dispute over rights to some of the country’s most lucrative vodka brands.

The businessman, Yuri Shefler, who amassed a fortune exporting Stolichnaya and other labels around the world, denies that he threatened to kill Vladimir Loginov, a former deputy agriculture minister fighting to win back the vodka rights for the government.

Mr Shefler, a multi-millionaire, claims that the allegations are part of a plot to hijack his company. “Mr Shefler has never spoken to Mr Loginov and no one has ever shown any proof of the conversation,” said a company spokesman in Moscow. “This is all part of an illegal attempt by officials to gain control of our business.” Mr Shefler has not been seen in Russia since March last year. A warrant for his arrest has been issued and the manhunt has now moved to Western Europe, where Mr Shefler is said to own several homes.”

A Google search confirmed these were black walnuts. Yum! No wonder the squirrel seemed so happy–though I prefer my walnuts a little riper! Thanks, everyone.

Please, please do not go to a school playground. Children play on them! Dogs pee, poop, then children play there. Yuck. I know you scoop, everyone does. But I am sure not every particle is scooped!

with that type of down payment, you will only get close to a 200 a month car payment on a new car by stretching out the payback to 7 years. that is a long time to have a car payment…and usually you have to give up the zero percent financing to get the longer term.

instead, consider buying a gently used car, preferably one that is certified. if you have good credit, BECU offers a 2.5 percent rate right now, hard to beat on a new used car purchase. hyundais are a great reliable car that we were looking at a lot when considering our last purchase. also, here is a great website with tips on how to negotiate a car sale

My work truck is pretty much shot according to the mechanic. I appreciate that they told me it may not be worth spending money on rather than trying to get me to spend money on it, however it needs to be replaced! Does anyone have any recommendations for a reputable dealer/dealership in the area? I’m looking for an economical car with low monthly payments (200/month if possible). Only have about 1k for a down payment and may try to get an auto loan through my credit union. I know nothing about cars and would like a used car in good condition or a “budget” new car so I don’t have to worry about hidden problems a dealership may not disclose. I have really good credit, but am sort of lost and overwhelmed. I’ve spent so much money on this last car and need something dependable to drive my kids around in. Oh yeah, this won’t just be my work vehicle, it will be my main mode of transportation. Any helpful tips are appreciated, just don’t know where to begin and don’t want to get ripped off due to my lack of knowledge. I’m thinking maybe Hyundai, Kia or Ford Fiesta. I have a friend who works at a local dealership who I think will at least try to make sure I don’t get ripped off there, but I don’t know how much control he has over finance rates, price, etc. Thanks!

    WF..

blaming the individuals for the failure of an economy that gutted their 401ks, their real estate investments, their pensions and put necessities out of economic reach is mean.

    yup.. mean.

your taxes aren’t due to the victims of this economy.. they are due to the victors.. who have plenty of money to spend but choose to keep their cash while you spend yours to cover for their profiteering.

isn’t that sweeeeeet of them ;->

    it’s a beautiful day..

go outside. meet some of your neighbors..

you might even find you like them enough to want to keep them around.

Thanks, tricky. Yup, we did the long scan – took about 30 minutes. I guess we’ll run it again. We’re normally HuluPlus and Amazon watchers. I only watch network news on Tuesday and Thursday mornings so it wasn’t noticable until now.

Y’all might want to check out Karl Jacoby’s book Crimes Against Nature. I learned a lot here. I had no idea that conservation/environmentalism efforts similar to how we know them today went as far back (at least) as the 1890s. When doing research in the New Orleans Times-Picayune, I came across several articles in the late nineteenth century about beaver conservation (mostly), which was completely news to me. I had to get back to my main topic, but I want to go back to the archives and read more about it, and add to that what was understood and acted upon in the day re. levees (my assumption was “not much,” but now I wonder if any efforts made just weren’t understood enough or were a compromise).

I’d like to give a huge shout-out to the volunteer producers and sound engineers who pulled together two days’ and three stages’ worth of music for this years’ annual Alki Art Fair – all but one were recruited through this forum so it’s most appropriate to give a shout-out back through this forum:

    To Ben Stream,

    Kevin Finney,

    Jim Garber,

    Christian Fattoruso

    Dan Doherty

    Scott Walker

a huge thank you and congratulations for pulling off an awesome weekend of live music. It’s my pleasure to work with all of you. Thanks again – and to Tom Longabough, a former volunteer now studying music and recording at NYU, thank you for last year’s effort and super best of luck at NYU.
