As we love to point out over and over, the West Seattle Bridge is not a freeway. Its simply not practical to weave between lanes to satisfy your request, especially during heavy use periods. The safe thing to do is to pick the lane you know you need for your exit, and sit tight.
In the last few years, I’ve become very conscious of how pedestrian and bicyclist survivability it dramatically impacted by just a difference of 5mph, and now I try not to speed at all in areas posted below 40mph. So I’m one of those people insisting on driving the speed limit or really close to it, in the left lane on Admiral between the bridge and California.
Slow down folks – the difference of 5mph isn’t going to dramatically change your commute time, but it might save someone’s life…
There would be a lot less dead Palestinians if their (not “there” for those of you in the Admiral District) government wasn’t a terrorist organization. My fellow Republicans. Do not attack the Democrats right now. They are doing a fine job of embarrassing themselves with their rigged selection process. I mean really, a woman who is being investigated by the FBI and a socialist as THE two BEST candidates EVER. I don’t see Republicans rioting outside the Bern’s and Hill’s campaign stops. Funny how that free speech thing kind of gets bandied about but is accompanied with a bit of violence. Nope, if you don’t want free speech, be a lib and scream and yell and throw rocks at Police officers who are just doing their job. Remember, illegal immigration is up due to the generous and forgotten policy of the Federal Government. And by the way, Donald Trump’s decisions have not caused death like Hillary’s (and give Bernie credit here too!). Rejoice in the fine job of a party that only cares about feeding itself, government, and promising free stuff while the U.S. economy is tepid and GDP is about the 4th weakest among Presidents. ((BUT THE STOCK MARKET IS SO HIGH you might say… Tell that to the working poor and middle class that don’t get quarterly dividends or can’t afford to invest in stocks)). The louder they scream the more scared they are. Sit back, grab some popcorn and watch the fireworks. I wonder if Ralph Nader or somebody like that might jump into the race? Hmmm.

If you are into good reads about our country, and the election coming up, and concerned about how all of this will go, and what has changed, and Donald Trump, then this is a great read for you. It’s from The Atlantic. It’s really long, so make sure you have a bit of time. But it’s fascinatingly interesting. And you don’t have to agree. It could be the start of a very interesting conversation on here, for sure.

Mid June-mid August. Part time with some weeks off. Two boys 11 & 14. Must drive and have a car. We live in North Shorewood. Pay between $15-17/hr + mileage. Most days 9 or so to 3 or 4 some days out earlier.

Our son, and one of his friends that lives in the neighborhood, are old enough to be independent most of the time but still benefit from oversight, someone that can get them to the places they like to go, and a buddy that they can look up to and hang out with. They both enjoy skateboarding, Yu-Gi-Oh, bowling, eating Pho, video games, the occasional movie. Normal teen boy stuff.
If you are 18 years old (so that you are free of the State driving restrictions), responsible, patient, and are looking for a unique summer job experience this may be the one for you. We are thinking of 20-25 hours a week, but that would depend on vacations and your availability. Hourly pay will likely be higher for this job than other summer jobs, but will depend on your fit.

Thanks for the tip! Luckily someone texted the phone and I was able to reply that I needed help finding the owner.
Owner was found and phone returned. Part of several things stolen from his car today, unfortunately. Glad to have been able to return it to him.
Shawn…thank you, thank you…I do that , too…at least on Admiral…and hopefully, if they get in the right lane to speed up and pass, they have to wait to get in line, because mostly they aren’t turning right down there on Admiral. And I always think….where’s a cop when you need them. I know it’s not nice, but I smile when I see someone getting stopped for speeding on Admiral, either direction :D
Found an iPhone along Holden Ave around 13th Ave near the bushes. Maybe stolen and dumped? Still in good shape with battery left. Call me at 510-407-7976 to describe the cover.
Thanks for the suggestions! We are definitely focusing first on here in WS just because of ease of access and keeping it as local as possible but we’re open to the best option regardless of where it may be in the city.
So far, we’ve been REALLY impressed with “West Seattle Women’s Health and Midwifery”. My wife felt really comfortable there and while several of the other places she went to gave her post-it notes with contact info or a business card to check back in at a predetermined time the ladies at the WSWH&M gave my wife a full packet of information, asked her a lot of questions to know her concerns and all around were the most professional, comfortable, welcoming environment we’ve found so far but we’re still checking with others just in case. They are definitely #1 on our list so far though. :)
We are looking for a Saturday evening babysitter for our soon to be 3 & 4 year old at our home near Lincoln Park -at least 3 weekends a month.
I have a wonderful OBGyn, Dr. Theresa Burdick. She is in network but unfortunately not in West Seattle, she is in the Heath Medical Building next to Swedish on Broadway. I do have to pay for parking but my recollection is it’s not very expensive (it’s been a year since I’ve been there so this may have changed).
waynster…and she did it because she didn’t want any debt when she got out of college…are we supposed to be ok with that because it’s prostitution, the oldest profession, and get over it, it exists? Nope…not me…sorry…not just so you don’t have to be not carrying college debt for the rest of your life. Sorry.
You do realize that we have many socialist aspects to the way that we do things. We socialize the cost of roads, police, fire and EMS service, our court system education, water and electricity just to name a few. We as a nation are peculiar, however, in how we deal with that. We socialize the costs/expenses and allow businesses to retain all of the profits generated while using that infrastructure, meaning that we don’t tax them appropriately or at all and we allow them to bully state and/or regions into incredible giveaways (I’m talking to you, Boeing!) WE have, as a nation decided that the rich get to continue to be rich and that the middle class and poor get to stay that.
As to whom we are at war with; that is an idea, not a nation/state. Military force has never overcome an idea. Ever. It galvanizes it if nothing else. We haven’t actually declared war since 1941. We never declared war for Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm or the “war” that we’ve been prosecuting for the last 15 years. I place quotation marks around war, by the way, because of that missing declaration (congress abdicated its authority for both conflicts) and that we are fighting an idea…with guns. This didn’t work in the Middle Ages during the Crusades, either.
Tell me, how has military force done overcoming Palestinians?

Well, you could blow me over with a feather!! The person that contacted me from CL because of the FCC complaint, just sent me a response after looking into my account. She indicated she could see the offer I received/accepted for high speed ($70.00/mo), AND that it was never applied to my account, (instead I was billed $104.00/mo).
She is requesting a refund for me and has said she will be following up to make sure I receive it. Not holding my breath, but am hopeful that it will come thru.
I am proudly intolerant of Socialsism and Communism. We are at war against radical Islamic terrorism.
I wish that treating my perimeter would take care of our ant problem, but unfortunately i live in one of those houses with a crawl space underneath and short of going under there to treat the interior perimeter and seal the bottom of the house.. that won’t work for us.
My days of crawling into either the crawl space or the attic space have ended…
i will try corn meal in the crack on the patio though…

UPDATE:
Last week I sent an email to FieldSup (Todd) using the address that he supplied, above. I detailed my latest issue. I asked that he respond by email, and let him know that I would not have undocumented conversations, such as by phone. I also told him that I would be reporting the results, if any, here on the Blog.
Did someone mention crickets?? There has been no response whatever. Clearly, as someone else mentioned, this was just a maneuver to take the conversation offline, while doing absolutely nothing to address the issues – yet another DIRTY, unethical trick by CL to screw customers and avoid accountability. And yes, this little item will be included in my complaint to the FCC.
victim blaming is not something to be proud of
yet.. some people are… until they are the victim
go figure
My brilliant myrmecologist best friend has given me some great tips, many based on ant behavior. I have a tube of clear caulk on hand, and every time ants come in I track them to their source and seal the opening. Sometimes it’s a tiny, tiny crack in existing caulk, or a miniscule nail hole in an old floor. Recently they’ve been coming up from around the base of the toilet, so that needed a re-caulk. As WSB mentioned, meticulous cleanliness is essential, especially in regard to pet food areas. The ‘moat’ method for pet food dishes works great.
I also learned from my friend that ants love to follow ‘lines’ – such as electrical wiring, baseboards, grooves in flooring, joists, etc. That’s why you frequently find them coming from electrical outlets – because of the pattern, not the heat. You see the same thing outdoors, as ants run along hoses.
For those of you who hold some compassion toward our tiny visitors, I highly recommend a product called Orange Guard, available at TruValu. It will kill ants if directly sprayed on them, but will deter them if sprayed around the perimeter of the house, or any entry points. The advantage to this PETA approved product is that it is non-toxic and can be used indoors around kids or pets.
Julie.. i have a problem with defining intolerance as not accepting intolerance from others.
So…With whom are we at war? War means something specific, as do all words, and I would argue that since congress has not issued a dclaration of war that we are not at war per the law/constitution. We are engaged in military action against an Idea (I capitalized that on purpose). Do you really believe that bombs, guns and drones are the way to defeat an idea? Show me anywhere in history that that didn’t galvanize those idealists.
Now on to Israel; what about Israel? What does it mean to support Israel, does it have to be your way? Does it have to be all or nothing? What do you really know about Israel beyond the fact that it’s been involved in military action since it’s inception? The need that Americans feel to support Israel is peculiar in that it is entirely without reason and seems to be entirely controlled by the nation that is demanding aid.
By the way, for you and Betty, Julie, hurling statements aimed at denigrating groups rather than refuting points immediately renders your argument easily dismissed.
