Hello! My name is Katie Willman Godfrey and I’ve lost my wallet here in West Seattle. I was at the Target at Westwood Village, and either left it at the checkout or in the cart/parking lot.
I’ve checked with Target, searched my car and home high and low, and can’t find the wallet anywhere. Though I live in West Seattle, my ID is a New Jersey license, which is inside … along with a few credit cards and some cash. I am happy to provide a reward to anyone who can provide me with help in finding the wallet! I do hope to find it soon, because I have to travel in two weeks and need my ID!
The wallet is a light blue Fossil wallet with the aforementioned items inside. Please help!
Feel free to trespass in my neighborhood Jan. Please do it during the day. Apparently someone was shot in the leg four blocks from my house recently. That is something I want the police investigating… I am also fine with people walking by utilizing my garbage can (I posted this in the last dog poop thread). In fact I often walk my block and pick up the litter others leave behind.
And for the last time. I did not dispense any fireworks at all this year or last within the city of seattle. I live a 10 minute walk to a place where it is legal. I am however advocating that it should be legal in the city limits of Seattle. And my opinion has not changed because of a vocal minority on a forum.

A question: where do you dispose of your sharps…syringes or needles…besides the transfer station. I am currently without my own transportation, not driving, and needless to say, it’s difficult finding a drop off that isn’t in some other part of Seattle, etc., so thought I’d ask here. There must be others in the same predicament, I would think.
Thanks for any info y’all might have…

so, then, EdSane…you’re also agreeable to other illegal things going on in your neighborhood? Is that what I’m hearing? You know…dogs pooping in your yard, people using your garbage. Loitering in your front yard getting drunk, graffiti on your fence or house, going 50 mph down your street, car booming music at decibel levels not tolerable, maybe a muffler that’s waaayyy too loud for your ears, cars racing at 1am on a weekday, etc…..the list goes on and on. Good to know, because it’s not particularly tolerated in my neighborhood, but I may just tresspass your neighborhood, because those things are fun to me…

Ed, what does it take for you to understand that your personal fun with making things go boom does indeed effect others and the majority are telling you? Why does your desire outweigh the combined rights of your neighbors? Seems very selfish and short-sighted to me.
If you want to set off fireworks, drive 15 minutes south where it’s legal and “have a blast”. Here in our neighborhoods and city, it’s not legal, a large amount of the population is made up of vets, kids and people with pets who cringe at the random explosions. Again, it is NOT LEGAL in city limits! Why is it okay to expect everyone around you to tolerate your offensive actions but it’s too much to ask you to just go somewhere else to do it? Sheesh.
It was a fantastic soft opening, packed wall to wall and there were several folks who trickled in from the hill too..A great night for them for sure, it does suck about the violence that occurred late last night on 16th though.
What industry are you in?
The local BNI groups stay pretty strong in West Seattle.

Cliff Mass often describes atmospheric inversions in our area that would help reflect sounds from the harbor area to points inland. I live near Alki and often hear trains sometimes louder, sometimes barely at all. And when the ferries blow their horns I know there is fog.
the trouble with fireworks that sound like shots is that sometimes they are :(
Lora, thank you for trying to handle this in a compassionate way. It makes me feel good about shopping in the Junction. And if her carts are still there and I don’t see her, I’ll just hope that she’s OK.
Sorry, squareeyes, I’m pleased to have it. Thanks anyway!
EdSane..
the thing of it is that those who have adverse reactions to continuous fireworks are not a very small minority. If you read the posts here over the years you will find that there are lot of us who suffer every fireworks season..
How much do you think i should have to shell out so that someone else can set off illegal fireworks? Because that is what happens.. Will those who set off the fireworks pay for our vet bills or our ER visits for the kind of medications your doctor doesn’t hand out? Are you willing to pony up for more than the fireworks but for the loss of work and medical bills and vet bills they generate?
i am guessing not. but someone has to you know…
Sorry if I sounded rude, but there’s little point in complaining about train horns in West Seattle. First of all, the noise isn’t that loud where most people live, even if the sound does carry. The only train tracks are on the eastern edge of the peninsula. And secondly, there are many, many crossings along West Marginal Way where they are required to sound their horns. That’s not going to change, no matter how much people complain about it.
Does anyone know where (Mary? Marie?) is currently located? She is the women who is seen around town with multiple shopping carts, usually reading. She has her carts by Sleepers in Seattle and we would like to reunite her with her belongings or have someone offer to take them to her.
Last time we heard, she was in the Admiral District.
Thanks,
Lora

Yes, I think it’s perfectly fine. I don’t believe an out right ban is necessary because a very small minority of people have adverse reactions to fireworks. Allowing it only on specific days during specific hours is a reasonable accommodation.
Im fine with law enforcement attempting to enforce outside of actual holidays however when you institute total bans that the majority don’t follow what results is a police force that is not inclined to enforce any part of it ever.
You’re likely hearing trains along West Marginal Way SW. We’ve been in Upper Fauntleroy for almost 25 years and I’ve noticed them more in recent years … we didn’t pay much attention to the industrial train traffic along the Duwamish until we found ourselves crossing the train tracks on foot while walking to various breaking-news scenes there.
Booming economy, perhaps? The places you name are not anywhere near trains, so while you may hear them, your description of “bad” is an exaggeration. You live in the largest city in the northwest. There are smaller towns with lots more train noise.
I am confused about why I am hearing so many train horns. All day long, at Alki, Admiral District, the Junction, over on 35th… I’ve lived in West Seattle a long time and don’t remember its ever being so bad. I thought the train operations on Harbor Island are cut way back due to diminished Port operations but I am hearing them far more often than ever. Could I be hearing trains from downtown? If anybody could shed any light on this, I’d be grateful.
So, EDSane, you can read littlebrowndog’s post and still think it’s OK? And when it’s not “specific holidays during set times” and never will be? Really?
I’ve read all the comments and my stance has not changed. I wish we could put this to a referendum to the people as I believe the majority of citizens are with me on supporting the use of fireworks on specific holidays during set times.
The ban is pointless as police are not going to go around and penalize thousands of people every holiday.
FWIW, in the article that WSB published earlier this evening covering last night’s meeting of the Southwest District Council, it was mentioned that Gunner Scott of HPAC brought up the subject of the “Seahawks Cannon” to CM Herbold, so now we officially know that she is aware of the situation:
HPAC’s Scott told Herbold that Highland Park has its own problems with noise – particularly the “Seahawks cannon” and other fireworks issues. Herbold said she has an “ongoing project with the SPD around fireworks” and has been trying to get information about how much enforcement they do, or don’t do. “They’re basically not enforcing it” is what she’s found so far. Even if they don’t enforce, she said, maybe there could be an effort to confiscate illegal fireworks and get people out of the habit.
