Hi there — if you subscribe to Ridwell, which will pick up all your plastic film, old batteries, cloth rags and much more — they have periodic pickup days just for those freezer packs. The service overall is only about $10 a month and you’d be surprised at how much stuff they can and will recycle.
The next time they have a pickup for freezer packs I’m going to give them and extra extra giant bag of them :) they partner with the food subscription services etc so they are all recycled and reused. Hope that helps!

Does anyone know of places/organizations that might be able to use freezer packs? We have several extra from food gifts that were sent to us. I tried the WS and WC food banks, who don’t need them – I’d be very grateful for any suggestions! Or if anyone out there wants them, post here!

So, Portland Anarchists trashed a Democratic headquarters on inauguration day in Portland.
The police broke up the terrorists and arrested 15 people.
In Seattle, Anarchists spent hours roaming the city, breaking windows, setting fires, throwing dumpsters and other debris into the streets. Not only did the police allow them free hand to roam and destroy, they made only three arrests.
    This is pathetic.
This coming fall, we need to elect city counsel member’s and a mayor who want to govern the city not pander to the loudest voices.

Life’s too short to not work someplace awesome! If you have tons of energy, love kids and are looking for a way to give back to your community, you may be the person we are looking for!

    What we expect from you…

Teach amazing classes based on our proven curriculum and teaching method (don’t worry, we’ll teach you how!)
Provide outstanding customer service and membership experience. We treat our members like family here.
Be ready to LEAD. We will make a positive impact on the growth and development of the children and families of our community! But we also make a difference in the lives of our teammates! Many of the leaders in our company started in this position and have enjoyed the opportunities for upward mobility.

    You’d fit in here if…

You’re totally open to being a goofball and love giving (air) high 5’s. (A background in child development, physical education and /or gymnastics helps as well).
You live to serve! Making others feel good makes you feel good.
Kids really like you AND their parents really like you too.
You were voted most likely to be in a good mood by your high school classmates.
You love to have fun but you know when to buckle down and do work.

You may think we’re awesome because…

Kids walk out of our classes more confident than when they walked in every single day.
You’ll get your steps in and close your activity rings while you work because you’ll be moving all day.
We take our fun pretty seriously but also take the role we play in our community and with each child we meet seriously. The relationships you’ll build here will last a lifetime.

Our previous bill was also over $100 higher than usual. We contacted the utility and after we followed the utility instructions for checking the meter, we found it buried under 2 feet of dirt and find it hard to believe they can read the meter. They woudn’t really answer that comment but they told us if the next bill comes back more in the normal range that we can put in a request for a credit since there is no way we have used that much extra water (and we have proven we do not have a leak).

Hey Neighbors, just received my Dec/Jan sewer bill and it is over $100 higher than previous bills. Checking to see if anyone else has experienced the same or if it’s just me? The water bill is in line with previous so I’m unsure how the sewer could increase without the increase in water. (Trash was normal charge as well, just the sewer was higher)

I have been wondering the same thing as we received that note as well. I save the Christmas Card envelope with his name and address on it so after the accident I looked up his name but I didn’t find any information other than it appears he is 68. He has been a great delivery person and whomever is delivering now is doing a great for us – just a few late papers. My husband and I were going to send some gift cards to the address.

…when you can join a company that has great projects right here on the accidental island?
Ventana Construction is hiring journey-level carpenters, and bags-on lead carpenters for our remodeling and custom home projects. We offer competitive wages and full benefits: a generous PTO program, 401k and 100% company-subsidized medical/dental/vision for employees.
We are looking for skilled carpenters with a strong background in remodeling and a mix of rough and finish experience. Carpenters should have a minimum of 3 years’ experience and leads at least 7 years, with at least 2 of those in a lead position.
We expect a high level of craftsmanship and professionalism at all of our projects, and teamwork between staff and our trade partners. All of our projects right now are in West Seattle, so no driving all over town to get to work.
To apply, please submit your resume to ventanaresumes@gmail.com. A background check is required as part of our interview process.

We get the daily NYTimes near the Morgan Junction, and I believe it’s the same carrier. The delivery time has been very late for the past few days, so perhaps that’s why. Any info the blog can dig up would be great, as there is no reliable way to contact the carrier, or even the newspaper.

    -Has a great work ethic

You might be able to take care of this yourself using the techniques mentioned, but the important thing is to make sure you’ve found the entry point so that is can be permanently sealed. I just had a roof rat removed from my attic by John with Adept Pest. He found that the rat had chewed through the screening on a roof vent. He installed a one way exit on the hole, then sealed all of the other vents with heavy-duty wire. However, clever Mr. Rat chewed a new hole in a very hidden location – which John quickly found and sealed. I’ve used John several times in the past and he is simply the BEST. John knows every trick, employs IPM methods, takes requests for humane removals without judgment, is great to work with, AND is very reasonably priced. He will not try to sell you unnecessary and toxic poisoning programs like so many pest companies do. Just a great guy. Give him a call, (sometimes you have to be persistent – he’s super busy).

A friend of mine who gets the daily newspaper mentioned that she got a note in her paper that the delivery person had been in a bad car accident. I get Sunday only and didn’t get the note. Does anyone know if there is a Go Fund Me or other set up for them? They deliver at least up to Sunrise Heights and at least as far south as White Center.

    Jack Rogers

    What’s everyone’s favourite flavour?

Buckshot Honey (not WS) had an awesome pheasant pie.

And The Tall Chef (thetallchef.com) is a WS business with some awesome pies – chicken&bacon, stout & beef, Moroccan lamb, and veg – and a new rabbit and chorizo pie!~ They do free delivery to WS too, and sides to go with.

Pot pie factory seems to have good options too for dietary people (potpiefactory.com).
