North Corner Chamber Orchestra is proud to feature The Aspen String Trio in its opening concert cycle featuring works by Elgar, Schubert and Wagner. The concerts will take place on October 19, 2019 at 2 pm at Element 79, 5506 6th Ave S, and on October 20, 2019 at 7:30 pm at Youngstown Cultural Arts Center, 4408 Delridge Way SW,.
The Aspen String Trio is one of the rare professional string trios performing and touring today. Celebrated for visionary programming and virtuoso performances offered with keen insight and good-natured humor, AST performs the complete trios of Beethoven, Mozart, and Schubert, as well as lesser known blockbuster works by Dohnanyi, Hindemith, Martinů, Rozsa, Klein, Veress, Villa-Lobos and Ysaÿe, among others. The Aspen Trio is led by violinist David Perry and includes violist Victoria Chiang and cellist Michael Mermagen.
Titled IDYLL, repertoire for the concert includes Introduction and Allegro for String Quartet and String Orchestra by Sir Edward Elgar, Symphony No. 3 by Franz Schubert and Siegfried Idyll by Richard Wagner. In the selection of these three works the orchestra spans nearly 100 years, from Schubert in 1815 to Elgar in 1905. However, the musical distance is vast and dramatic, running at break-neck speed from the Classical period (think Haydn, Mozart, early Beethoven) through the Romantic (Tchaikovsky, Brahms) to the Modern (Stravinsky, Shostakovich).
Tickets are available at nocco.org and are $35/adults, $25/seniors, children 18 years of age and younger are free.
