“Beyond Land Acknowledgement” will feature weekly programming on Sunday evenings from 5:00-6:00pm at Saint John the Baptist Episcopal Church on California Ave SW.
We are pleased to be able to offer this series to our community and invite all who are interested in learning more about the history and future of the Duwamish tribe and the effects of colonization on the Indigenous community to join us. The first three weeks are part of the “Balance Due” Series developed by Tyna Ek but participation in all sessions is not required.
On October 6th Ken Workman, Duwamish Tribal Services President, will be speaking on his experiences growing up Duwamish in the area.
On October 13th and 20th Tyna Ek and Pr. Andrew Conley-Holcom will be presenting Admiral United Church of Christ’s series “Balance Due” about the effects of colonization on the Duwamish people in our area.
On October 27th Jackson Espeut will be discussing fishing and water rights and their significance and effects on Indigenous communities.
On November 3rd Dr. Jim Jarvis of the UW Division of Rheumatology- Department of Pediatrics will present on historical and on-going medical-related trauma effecting Indigenous communities.
