Update: Skyelar Hailey in custody after theft at WSHS

ORIGINAL 10:58 AM REPORT: Thanks to those who’ve called and e-mailed – we have just confirmed with police that a foot chase in the Admiral area (near West Seattle High School) has ended with an arrest, so that’s why you’re seeing major police activity in the area. We expect to have more details shortly on what happened. 11:16 AM UPDATE: One of our tipsters had told us the suspect was believed to be Skyelar Hailey, a repeat offender who we have reported on here before, most recently in May, when police found him in a stolen car, weeks after he was sentenced on reduced charges related to an Admiral burglary case. Southwest Precinct Lt. Steve Paulsen confirms to WSB that Hailey is in custody, under arrest for investigation of theft, along with a “female” who was with him, and has these additional details of what happened: Lt. Paulsen says Hailey is suspected of stealing a teacher’s purse this morning at WSHS, where summer school is under way; apparently a custodian originally gave chase. Police were called and a foot pursuit ensued, with Hailey taken into custody (the female’s involvement is not clear at this point). (Photo by Christopher Boffoli, from Hailey’s April 24 sentencing) 4:47 PM UPDATE: Hailey has finally shown up on the King County Jail register, booked about an hour ago. The potential charges are listed as three counts of investigation of burglary. 6:16 PM: His entry now has been updated to “bail denied.”

It’s supposed to be in the 80’s this afternoon.

I’m sure Skyelar will be out soon enough to enjoy the weather today.

  • Great Mazinga August 18, 2009 (11:29 am)

This idiot needs to stay locked up. Maybe mayor half dime has an extra room.

  • WSB August 18, 2009 (11:29 am)

We’ll be watching the jail register. He was being questioned at the precinct at last report – TR

  • onceachef August 18, 2009 (11:36 am)

This kid, as much as I hate to say it, is a BIG TIME loser and needs to be locked up for a long time for his own good….I believe this is what? strike 4?

  • JenV August 18, 2009 (11:39 am)

oh good lord. there is just no hope for this kid. at all.

  • JoB August 18, 2009 (11:44 am)

will this be enough to trigger incarceration? we can only hope.

  • JenV August 18, 2009 (11:49 am)

    isn’t he under probation?

  • JanS August 18, 2009 (11:54 am)

part of the foot pursuit with guns drawn was right outside my bedroom window…one cop with a gun in each hand looking in the dumpster outside my building, yelling for him to come out with hands up…..the morning’s excitement !

  • miws August 18, 2009 (12:13 pm)

Geez Jan! That’s literally too close to home! :o

    .

As with onceachef, the “strikes” aspect came to mind for me as well. Is Skyelar part of some special ten strikes program?

    .

Also, didn’t his girlfriend previously claim he was turning his life around? And the feamle with him today? Could it be……?

    .

    Mike

  • JanS August 18, 2009 (12:27 pm)

miws…I think they missed the turn…

  • Gabriele August 18, 2009 (12:29 pm)

It will be another sob story, another hard life tear jerker, another ‘he’s really a misunderstood lovely fellow’…

…and then they’ll let him go, just like that other punk that then went on to rape and kill in South Park!

I am so over all these juvenile delinquents!

  • t.furguson August 18, 2009 (12:49 pm)

i was at hiawatha with my son this morning and saw this scumbag run from the cops. HE NEEDS TO BE PUT AWAY!! having the cops with guns drawn right outside someones house is not a good thing.
he will be out by 5:00. but the guys in jail that had a some pot on him sit in jail for years.

  • WSB August 18, 2009 (12:58 pm)

Re: the “strikes” – I don’t believe that applies in cases like these that are considered to be nonviolent crimes, like burglaries and thefts. Just saying that because it’s been mentioned a few times. Assuming he is booked into jail today, it will be the sixth time in less than 10 months, according to the King County Jail Register (where he hasn’t shown up yet today, but they show bookings going back about a year, in this case October 2008, November 2008, February 2009, April 2009, May 2009 bookings).

  • bigdaddy August 18, 2009 (1:00 pm)

Saw a young black man and young white female, (guessing both 19) emerge from side of rec center.
as they got near the front, a police car came tearing thru. Thought I was going to be run over,
but the police stopped in time (obviously). Both officers jump out.
Officer 1 instructed suspects to remain and not run.
Suspects both kept their backs to officers,
    acting like they didn’t hear,
I could not see their hands, officers pulled their guns. Again, “do not run”. Black man started running and officer 1 gave chase. Officer 2 quickly cuffed female. I got the heck outta there…….upon return thru park,
was informed by person from High School that they were stealing things from inside. Also overheard a student say it appeared the black suspect was also casing a car. I could see the black male suspect in back of police car. Good job SPD!

  • John August 18, 2009 (1:03 pm)

Hmmmm…maybe he’s the one who stole my wife’s purse on Sunday.

  • livingonthebeach August 18, 2009 (1:51 pm)

Let’s see, Strike 10? How many more times, or does someone need to get hurt before something is done.

  • OP August 18, 2009 (1:54 pm)

If memory serves, recently some teenage thug only received 30 days for kicking an officer in the head. Why should we expect a miscreant and habitual criminal like Skyler here to serve any significant time for his multiple offenses.

Way to piss away your life, Skyler. Hopefully you wake up some day and become a decent, productive member of society.

  • KBear August 18, 2009 (2:11 pm)

“Also, didn’t his girlfriend previously claim he was turning his life around?”

    It was a 360-degree turn.

  • Gina August 18, 2009 (2:17 pm)

Skyler, the 8 track tape bandit.

    Never ending repeats.

  • Aaron August 18, 2009 (2:33 pm)

    Dear Skyelar,

You are not very good at being a criminal.

    Please try a new vocation.

    Thank you,

  • KateMcA August 18, 2009 (2:33 pm)

Ugh- total loser. It’s amazing to me the lengths to which people will go to avoid actually working to earn money. It really can’t be easier to break into a school, steal from a teacher, case a car, run from the cops, and spend yet another day in jail.

  • bsmomma August 18, 2009 (2:39 pm)

I would love to hear that this little punk is in jail for a very long time. But I’m sure because of some legal “reasoning” he’ll be out within 24 hours. I understand that he hasn’t committed a violent offense but when does the community’s safety come in to play? Police running through the park, again (Alki shooting) doesn’t give me warm fuzzies. Do we as a community just have to “deal” with this guy and wait to hear that he’s physically harmed somebody? That is just insane to me! He’s obviously, at the very least, a minor threat to society at this point. And unfortunately, I think he took a wrong turn when trying to turn his life around. This just has my blood boiling!

  • baconbutt August 18, 2009 (3:17 pm)

I guess he’s not adequately succeeding in his drug sales to support himself, so he has to steal from those cash-happy teachers working the summer shift. What an arse.

I’m guessing, too, that this is either Chelsie the original Admrial Way girlfriend or someone completely new since the ‘He found Jesus and a GED program’ GF seemed to have been dropped within a week or two of her public decree of love and admiration.

  • blythe August 18, 2009 (3:18 pm)

i live in the house he got arrested at in november. my dad and i we’re hauled out of our apartment in our pajamas with guns pointed at us because the cops thought the house was one unit. his girlfriend lied to the landlord and the cops saying she didn’t know him. i had to put up with their garbage for months. i’m glad to see they’re still running around the neighborhood acting like fools. they think this is cool now, but in 10-20 years, they’ll be really unhappy with life.

  • onceachef August 18, 2009 (3:52 pm)

Whether or not the “3 strikes” rule is applicable, he’s got to be dealt with severely this time…such as locked up for a few years…I don’t think he’s “getting it” by giving him probation and such…probably thinks it’s a joke. Sooner or later he’s going to escalate because his simple “non violent” activities are going to get boring. Aaron has got it right…he’s not good at this..now I hope our judges can be better at sentencing him.

  • Michael August 18, 2009 (4:12 pm)

Love the language in this thread. Glad we have a bunch of clairvoyant judges reading WSB. Honestly, it’s a mob.
    .
My comment: this certainly sounds like a probation violation to me. It looks like he’ll be in for at least 2 years now. (Something no one bothered to look for before foaming at the mouth at how we should build another prison here to house him for the rest of his natural life for snatching a purse…oops, they don’t WANT a prison here? What a faux pas!)

  • beachdrivegirl August 18, 2009 (4:29 pm)

Is this a joke six arrests in ten months? HE deserves to be locked up for good. And I am hopeful that this gal that he was arrested with today was his g/f she deserves some time as well for the bs she is putting this neighborhood through.

  • BarbG August 18, 2009 (4:36 pm)

Hey Michael, I’m pretty sure he didn’t just snatch a purse. He’s been arrested for numerous other things. But if you are happy with him hanging around your neighborhood and casing where you live then that is just super, but I am not at all comfortable with that.

  • WSB August 18, 2009 (4:46 pm)

He’s finally showed up on the jail register. Booked into KC Jail an hour ago for investigation of three counts of burglary. (If you enter premises with the plan of stealing – like theoretically going to a school to take a purse – it’s burglary, even if you don’t break in.) Will continue to follow the case – TR

  • Donna August 18, 2009 (5:27 pm)

A gun in each hand? Guns drawn right outside someone’s apartment? Cops tearing through the parking lot almost hitting someone? All for theft of a purse? Wow.

  • Erik August 18, 2009 (5:37 pm)

Jan – I’m glad you finally had some excitement while in your bedroom!

  • WSB August 18, 2009 (6:04 pm)

Donna – Given that he was booked on three counts of investigation of burglary, there may be more to the story, which I won’t know till I see a report. What I have reported so far is what I got from Lt. Paulsen shortly after it happened – TR

  • WSB August 18, 2009 (6:17 pm)

Just added another quick note. His jail entry has been updated to “bail denied.”

  • Irukandji August 18, 2009 (6:46 pm)

NO surprise here. Though our neighborhood was disappointed that his case of breaking and entering didn’t result in much of a penalty, we were all pretty sure he would never have the ability to live up to the terms of his probation. It’s just so HARD not to steal from others :(

  • Wha? August 18, 2009 (7:07 pm)

Going to jail horny is NOT good:

    http://www.myspace.com/skyelar

  • Leroniusmonkfish August 18, 2009 (7:35 pm)

I posted this a while back…back when he was still a POS along with his loser girlfriend…

    What The said:
    05 / 26 / 19:47
Wasn’t it “Keepmynameout yourmouth” that schooled all of us about how this POS was turning his life around and going to make a difference in the WS community?

And his girlfriend said “and a big laugh to all of you cuz hes gettin out early!

    “Comment by SkyelarsGIRL — May 1, 09 2:55 pm”

News Flash! – He’s going away once again GIRL! You may want to look for another BF…dumbass…

Oh wait, you said you work for the city? Maybe you have some connections with Waste Management to get him out….

  • CD August 18, 2009 (8:06 pm)

Wha?- That myspace page is hilarious.

  • JanS August 18, 2009 (8:08 pm)

    Erik…you’re a funny man ;-)

  • miws August 18, 2009 (8:08 pm)

“His jail entry has been updated to ‘bail denied.’”

  • BMC August 18, 2009 (8:42 pm)

I’m horrified. My kids and husband encountered this situation very close at hand! Maybe we should move to Redmond!

  • homesweethome August 18, 2009 (8:56 pm)

where does everyone propose we lock up this fellow?

  • j August 18, 2009 (9:06 pm)

His myspace page is…interesting. The income he reported on his page is even more puzzling.

  • Mike August 18, 2009 (9:15 pm)

BMC, Redmond is not any better.

  • SSS August 18, 2009 (9:25 pm)

This is stupid. How much time and money are we going to waste chasing this guy. How many chances are we going to give him before he really hurts someone? Plus how many things has he done that he hasn’t got caught for. I wonder if they locked him up for more than a day if the crime in the area would go down…

  • sam August 18, 2009 (9:40 pm)

we’re glad he’s been put away,
but can someone remind the cops to turn on their sirens when they tear down California 60 mph?

my husband was pulling out of his parallel parking spot (near Oregon and California) when he almost got hit. going 60 mph, they seemed to ‘come out of no-where’. they had their lights on but no friggin’ sirens. If I’d lost my son and husband due to this scumbag, I’d probably end up in jail myself.

  • MrJT August 18, 2009 (9:49 pm)

He needs a good case of hot lead poisoning.

  • katemca August 18, 2009 (10:50 pm)

Mike- hilarious. Seems so true in this case! Hopefully he’ll finally get an actual punishment for his multiple offenses this time since he’s actually violating probation.

  • AD August 18, 2009 (11:21 pm)

    I wonder why he can’t stop…

  • E August 18, 2009 (11:34 pm)

Skyelar sucks and so does his stupid name. His number is on his myspace. Plus a pic of him wearing some jewelry he probably stole!!

  • Leroniusmonkfish August 18, 2009 (11:41 pm)

AD – Maybe it’s ADD? He just keeps forgetting about what a POS he is and his dumbass girlfriend and her mother continue to forget that he’s a waste of time.

I’ve been meaning to name something I have Skyelar but can’t recall what it was?

Sorry, gotta run… need to take a Skyelar.

  • OP August 18, 2009 (11:51 pm)

Going to jail horny is NOT good:

Especially considering the number of horny inmates.

where does everyone propose we lock up this fellow?
They’re called “prisons.” They hold “bad people” for long periods for committing things called “crimes.” I swear it’s all true! Look it up!

  • homesweethome August 19, 2009 (7:38 am)

So we want petty criminals locked up but not in a prison here in West Seattle, and we sometimes want sirens if it doesn’t wake us. Nice.

  • Leroniusmonkfish August 19, 2009 (9:11 am)

Petty = Pain in the Ass

wait until he comes into your Homesweethome

there would be less sirens once lil Skyelar is off WS streets.

Petty? Look at his track record…he’s just getting started.

  • OP August 19, 2009 (10:04 am)

So we want petty criminals locked up but not in a prison here in West Seattle, and we sometimes want sirens if it doesn’t wake us. Nice.

A prison in W. Seattle is not the issue; this habitual thug’s criminal activity in our community is.

  • Donna August 19, 2009 (10:46 am)

“my husband was pulling out of his parallel parking spot (near Oregon and California) when he almost got hit. going 60 mph, they seemed to ‘come out of no-where’. they had their lights on but no friggin’ sirens.

    BUT A PURSE WAS STOLEN!!!

  • WSB August 19, 2009 (10:49 am)

We just checked with police. Hailey is also suspected in two residential burglaries yesterday, and that explains the three counts of investigation of burglary on the jail register. Writing a separate followup shortly.

  • Johnny Davies August 19, 2009 (11:00 am)

Geez Donna. Please don’t call the police when someone steals from you.

  • robwestseattle August 19, 2009 (4:55 pm)

According to his myspace, a buddy of his is trying to sell (fence?) an 80Gig iPod. Didn’t somebody report have their iPod stolen recently?

  • cash-happy (BROKE) teacher August 20, 2009 (8:44 pm)

The ironic thing about this whole situation is that he stole from a teacher … a teacher?? Smooth move Skyelar …. they’re poorer than you!

  • donna is annoying August 21, 2009 (12:12 am)

really dont call the cops when anything happens to you or your things. wow. get a life.

  • not a thief August 21, 2009 (1:12 pm)

Maybe Skyelar comes from the school of thought of finders keepers losers weepers
    (refer to stolen stroller comments)

maybe the purse wasn’t stolen, the teacher ABANDONED it on the chair.

    what logic.
    :(

Sorry, comment time is over.
