WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Armed robbery on Alki

Two people reported being held up at 61st/Alki last night around 10:45 pm. Here’s what SPD is releasing so far:

Patrol officers responded to reports of a robbery near 61st Avenue Southwest and Alki Avenue Southwest. Police arrived and investigated the incident. Officers determined that a man and woman were robbed at gunpoint by two suspects, armed with a handgun and a possible rifle. The suspects ordered both victims to the ground and stole their wallet and cell phone. The suspects fled in an older sedan with tinted windows. The suspect and vehicle descriptions matched those of another armed robbery in John sector [North Seattle] less than two hours earlier. Patrol officers conducted an extensive area check for the suspect vehicle yet were unable to find it.

How horrific and scary for the two victims.  SPD needs to catch these two armed and dangerous criminals ASAP and lock them up.

Good job on the suspect descriptions…

This is what the police released, in its entirety. I would usually go into the radio archives and look for additional information but they are not currently available.

        Might this be the car?

I tried looking into that earlier today but no, i did hear a fragment of this incident in realtime and the car was described as maroon or red.

Yanni, WSB does an excellent job reporting on just about everything that happens around here. Please be respectful.

Was Alki beach open at that time? Was the robbery by the water on the promenade or up along the road?

I don’t think armed robbers care if a beach is closed or not.

This summer has felt more lawless on Alki, akin to the pandemic years and despite police presence. Overcrowding from unlicensed food vendors (my husband said one drove a truck down onto the beach and set-up next to the bathhouse, no one stopped them), fireworks as usual, and police vehicles sit idle allowing them to explode with no investigation, fires and general rowdy behavior that’s rowdier and more aggressive, people strolling in front of traffic, blocking it etc. I’m unclear why we can’t better manage this—there is little enforcement of laws.

Sorry, comment time is over.
