Also off West Seattle this morning: Orcas

9:44 AM: If you’re in view of west-facing West Seattle shores, Kersti Muul tells us a “small group of orcas” is southbound, south of Alki Point, east side of the channel. Let us know if you see them!

10:18 AM: Update from Kersti – still southbound, now off Me-Kwa-Mooks/Emma Schmitz (4500 block Beach Drive SW), “east of mid-channel.”

11:02 AM: Kersti reports transient orca T65A5, “the guy who likes to be alone and play in fishing/crab gear,” is close in, approaching the Fauntleroy ferry lanes.

T65A5 pursues the second most dangerous hobby for Cetaceans, after playing around with boat propellers.

Fun fact:  I saw a PBS special a few days ago that showed archaeological findings in Egypt area regarding whales. The oldest bones ever found.! That area actually used to be Water millions of years ago. They now know that Wales used to live on land and have found bones that they had feet with little finger type extensions. The whale separated into two main groups in evolution. The orcas are in one group that is smaller and has teeth… and the other group had their mouth become a filtering system. Very interesting program.. pretty sure it was nova.

Sorry, comment time is over.
