Must be an unlucky spot, same place I broke my arm falling off my bike years ago.

How was someone going so fast there that they flipped over?

    • WSB April 10, 2024 (12:21 am)

Flips are not necessarily the result of speeding.

SUVs can flip over going 15 mph.

      • Confused April 10, 2024 (11:55 pm)

How would a car flip at 15mph on a flat surface?

Another tippy top-heavy SUV rolled, as they are prone to do. At least no serious injuries.

Its true that SUVs are top heavy. That doesn’t they can’t be driven safely. Poor driving skills and knowing the capabilities of your vehicle. Are the reason we see so many rollovers.I logged hundreds of thousands of miles in top heavy commercial vehicles and never even came close to rolling one.

My daughter, grand daughter and son in law were in the suv. I’m so thankful they’re all alive and will be able to recover.

That’s so scary Gaby. I’m so glad to read that they’ll all be able to recover. Please buy yourself some flowers or a pastry today (whatever makes you feel some joy) as that must have been a hard phone call to receive.

Thank you!!! Just knowinf my babies are safe and now home is enough to keep me pushing through the day today!!! It was such a gut dropping feeling I do not wish on anyone!

My friend told me this morning that apparently just past Genesee where Avalon curves, a car was smashed into, causing a domino effect and damaging the cars near it.

The WS car flipping monster strikes again

  • Claudia Williams April 10, 2024 (6:44 am)

Cars are much lighter these days and if you spin out it takes very little to flip.

    • Brian April 10, 2024 (7:51 am)

This is untrue. Cars are measurably heavier now than they were before and it’s EVs driving that trend.

    • Bbron April 10, 2024 (7:59 am)

“much lighter” is absolutely incorrect. cars have been getting heavier (and bigger) each year since the 80s, and the overwhelming majority of the total cars being driven were made after they time. the reason for tipping is SUVs are prone to it and Americans have been rampantly buying SUVs (~80% of all new car purchases)

Also the vanity sizing that makes cars taller raises the center of gravity. This not only makes collisions more lethal to pedestrians and drivers of cars that aren’t extra tall, it makes these tall vehicles even more likely to roll over.

I guess time travel is possible!

  • Rick April 10, 2024 (7:44 am)

As my riding buddies would say “keep the rubber side down”.

  • John April 10, 2024 (12:12 pm)

Drivers fly down that portion of Avalon on their way to the bridge or Alki. Also folks continue to make the left turn from Avalon to Yancy even though it is clearly marked illegal now. We could use a traffic light at that intersection to also protect pedestrians crossing there. The flashing lights for the crosswalk do nothing.

Agreed. I’d also recommend anyone concerned with Yancy make a report to Google. Google Maps still tells me to turn left on Yancy every time. Not sure about the other mapping services, but that can’t help. People pay more attention to those than the actual signs.

Sorry, comment time is over.
