WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Package thief leaves item behind

The video and report are from Peter, who says this happened on 23rd SW at midday Tuesday:

He stole the package within a few minutes of delivery around 12:15. (His car looked) like a red Subaru outback with gray plastic trim.

We asked what the item left behind turned out to be; Peter said it “looked like a cover from a car headrest” and seemed new.

Any finger prints on the headrest cover?  Great portrait of the criminal. Hope it helps catch him.

Maybe he wanted to leave some thing, so it wasn’t obvious that the porch was empty after he stole the package? A fake out visually with a piece of trash literally.

Clearly he thought the package sat on a weight sensor and he didn’t want to get chased by the boulder

        Hahaha. That is funny!

So, it was a theft AND delivery?

    • PDiddy February 15, 2024 (4:48 pm)

Being the victim I am not particularly amused by these comments.

Perhaps the headrest cover was a prior package steal that he deemed not needed or sellable. Any one out there not get their headrest cover delivered?

Don’t these “porch pirates” know that most houses these days have ring cameras, and it’s more likely than not, they’ll be filmed. Or maybe they just don’t care and assume they’ll get away with it anyway? You’d think they’d at least try to disguise themselves a little bit.

    • ShermanO February 15, 2024 (10:31 am)

I think he did–that’s the awkward hand to his head to try and disguise his face.

      • PDiddy February 15, 2024 (5:09 pm)

He missed the other cameras. :)

From time to time people steal a dog dish I leave out in front of my barber shop. (Dogs get thirsty at night too, ya know). A couple of times a couple of them have been returned after a bit. A return to civility, overwhelming and insurmountable guilt or the world really is coming to an end? Either way – thanks…

So this was my house and this guy was driving what I believe to be a 1999-2005 red Subaru Forrester with grey trim, I was able to google a car that had same rims and trim. I was trying to file a police report but the option to select you have video\pictures forces you to use phone which I gave up on after like 30 minutes of hold. Then i drove down to the Delridge police substation next to Home Depot but they no longer are open for walk ins or any customer service which is lame but I suspect because of staffing shortages. Its been super frustrating to report this ahole. I believe since he stole package from porch within 10 minutes of delivery that he was following the truck. I suspect a bunch of the deliveries that day were taken. Package was delivered about 12:05PM and stolen 12:16pm. Coincidence?

Did you try to file the report online? When I was in the reporting system recently for a car prowl, I thought I saw options to file that way and include the video. (And yes, to the frequent naysayers on this point, video DOES matter and DOES get used in investigations. We’ve seen it excerpted in charging documents, mentioned in detectives’ probable cause narratives, etc. Even the semi-recent case of a backyard prowler turning out to be a murder suspect …)

I did finally get it filed. SPD Case # 24-43593. Thank you for posting this. They actually call you back and give you a case number and an email to upload the pics. here is that if you need for future use: spdgiu@seattle.gov. If anyone had a package stolen from fedex in Delridge and pigeon point area Tuesday this may be the guy and that case may be linked. Oh and yes when you select the video option it asks you to call you cannot file online. Thanks Peter

There’s an abandoned red car over at Roxhill parking lot 29th & Barton on Thursday &  Friday, it’s got gray trim and is a Hyundai Sonata.

This vehicle I am certain is a subaru.

Sorry, comment time is over.
