WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Another bank robbery

ORIGINAL FRIDAY REPORT: Police are investigating the second West Seattle bank robbery in two days. This time, Washington Federal at California/Dakota. Police tell us at the scene that they believe the robber – so far described only as a white male – got away on foot. Yesterday’s holdup was at HomeStreet Bank (41st/Alaska; WSB sponsor).

ADDED MONDAY: The only additional detail from police available so far is, “Suspect passed a note to staff demanding money with a threat of harm. Suspect obtained cash and fled the scene on foot SB.” We are also following up on both robberies with the FBI.

UPDATE: One added detail from the FBI – they believe the two robberies were committed by two different robbers.

Looks like they got someone. 7 police cars at bus stop on California. Near Canna . Man handcuffed sitting at bus stop

Thanks – there was a *possible* person detained in that area. (Just because someone is restrained doesn’t mean they’ve been arrested.) They were taking a witness by for a look. But everyone was gone by the time we got there, and clear from the original scene too when we then went back there, so we’re trying to confirm otherwise.

I was driving by about that time, a very tall man ran in front of my car. He got into an older model dark color van, parked facing south on the west side of street. He had something in his arms, dark beanie, dark coat, blue surgical face mask. It was just dark enough that’s all I could see. It seemed sketchy, and when I got home and read this post, I tried to call non emergency, but can’t get thru. Decide to post in case police look at the blog!

I’d suggest trying 911 and referring to incident 23-026101.

Not as of when I reached an SPD spokesperson.
