SEEN OFF WEST SEATTLE: Submarine, northbound

Thanks for the photos! Another submarine sighting off Alki today, in the noon hour – above, Ted caught the submarine in the background, with swimmers in the foreground. Below, Mike‘s photo with a closer look:

It’s on the MarineTraffic.com tracker simply as “U.S. submarine,” currently off Whidbey Island and continuing northbound.

Does it seem as if there is more sub traffic lately, or am I just noticing these reports more since Putin increased his saber rattling? Not trying to alarm anyone, just curious.

Any sub activity related to Ukraine (or N Korea) will, i bet come out of Bangor. Rest assured Navy will be VERY quiet and unobtrusive as to comings and goings of subs from there. Sub experts. Am i correct in assuming subs going to/from Bremerton would be unarmed?

      Not necessarily.

They are typically unarmed when they are at the base of their nuclear weapons at the very least. There’s a spot in the North Sound where they drop their stuff off. Way too much of a risk to have a bunch of submarines packed full of ordinance in one place should there be an attack

I just watched a very interesting documentary about how a third of our nuclear triad is underwater.  Check out the USS Kentucky.    Hopefully we can avoid any more escalation in Ukraine/Russia!   :(   #prayforourworld

Please stop publishing articles regarding movement of military assets/personal. Might be surprised what Intel can be gathered from that information.

As noted many times before, not only are these vessels highly visible, they also have chosen not to deactivate the technology that makes them visible on public trackers like MarineTraffic.com. This one was still visible as “US SUBMARINE” in the Strait of Juan de Fuca when I looked at MT again late last night.

These are the military assets of the American people, not some third world junta.   I am far more worried about the lock-step war jingoism in this country.  As far as “intel,” it can and has been used to gather information on American citizens as much as it has been used to gather intelligence on foreign adversaries.

Moobiemaximus. As WSB said a LOT of info comes from the Navy themselves. If you have an issue start with the Navy. Also, might add our adversaries aren’t needing to read WSB (or any other local media) to get their intel.

Sorry, comment time is over.
