PANDEMIC: King County lifts mask directive

You might recall that even after the state said it’s OK to be indoors in most circumstances without a mask, King County urged that people keep wearing them a while longer. Today – as planned – that directive has ended. From the county announcement:

As great as it is to see more of a return to normalcy, I can’t help but wonder how long it’ll last for with the CDC investigations into the Delta variant. Here’s hoping that hospitalizations and deaths stay low! Proud of our community for surpassing 70% vaccination! (seems like it’s nearly 80% for at least one dose in King County)

Every news report I have read indicates that vaccines are performing well against the Delta variant.

Los Angeles County lifted their mask directive on June 15.

Yesterday (June 28) they returned to strongly recommending indoor masking due to proliferation of the 60%-more-transmissible Delta variant.

See you in two weeks, I guess! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

More transmissible, less virulent (CNN doesn’t tell you that part). People seem to be hoping this continues.  It’s so weird. US vaccines are 88% effective against you catching the feared delta. Higher keeping you out of the hospital. This is an endemic now. We need to live with it.

Hopefully folks will read full announcement-but just in case—While this won’t be enforced-sure hope folks will do the right thing.

    • People who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated must continue to wear face coverings when they enter indoor public spaces, according to state guidance. This helps protect not only adults who are unvaccinated, particularly as more contagious variants are spreading, but also children and those with medical conditions that prevent them from getting vaccinated or from being fully protected by vaccines.
    • Businesses are allowed to request or require their customers and employees to wear masks regardless of vaccination status.

Anne, that may be so but do you really think someone that is unvaccinated at this point would be honest about it if asked? I certainly don’t.

I am not vaccinated and I intend to wear masks as directed.  Good grief FF, we’re not all monsters.

I am also unvaccinated and plan to wear a mask as directed!

FlimFlam and Faith – Why are you not vaccinated? Are you anti-vaxxers or do you have a legitimate reason?

I have heard of many people in the South Sound who are proudly wearing masks to prove they are unvaccinated.  Such a flip flop world.Thankful for the high percentage of vaccinated here in West Seattle.  Meeting new people out & about in the junctions & everyone starts with “Hi I’m <insert name> & I am fully vaccinated” followed by a bunch of “me too!”s & cheers
