WEST SEATTLE BIRDS: Battle of the Great Blue Herons

Thanks to Laurence Shaw for this series of photos from Alki during low tide earlier this week.

He says, “I was lucky enough to witness a pair of Great Blue Herons battling over a spot of lunch near the 1300 block of Alki Ave SW.”

“Happy to report that the bird who made the catch ultimately held on to its prize.”

Phenomenal shots! If you’re able to travel a short distance you should consider taking your camera to Marymoor Park in Redmond. There is a 20(ish) nest herony where the dog park meets Sammamish River, and Belted Kingfishers nest in the river bank walls in the area as well. Also, if this is the Laurence I suspect it is, I have a painting to show you! Thanks again :)
