UPDATE: Orcas pass West Seattle

(Added: Photo by Hobey Grote)

Thanks to Kersti Muul for the tip – transient killer whales are in the area, southbound off Fay Bainbridge State Park (map) at last report. Closer to the west side of Puget Sound, though, so you’ll definitely need binoculars.

Been watching for the past 25 minutes. Three vessels – Guide, Dazed and Confused, and Bailey were definitely much too close, far within the recommended, protected distance.

Please either take pictures and try to get boat numbers, and/or call 1-800-853-1964
Reporting here doesn’t help. But thank you for the concern and inquiry. I’m happy you saw them!!

They are just off Restoration Point now. Visible through binoculars.

Can anyone say what was going on with the hurt orca out front of Alki Point this morning around 10:30 am? There was a guy taking drone pics of it, and it was there at least 90 minutes.

No hurt orcas. Maybe a sailing sea lion?

Sorry, comment time is over.
