If you’ve wondered about the West Seattle Bridge lights …

One more story about lights on one of the longest nights of the year: Several people have e-mailed to point out another chronic streetlight outage on the high bridge. Those lights ar the responsibility of Seattle City Light, and they’re certainly on the utility’s radar, spokesperson Scott Thomsen tells WSB. City Light is working with SDOT, he says, to come up with a traffic-control plan for repairs, which he says SDOT usually wants to see done at night or on the weekend to reduce traffic impact: “We are asking for a lane closure with a blinking, moving SDOT truck following our yellow City Light truck as the repairs are made. They whole job should take about 5 hours once we get the crew in place.” As for a timeline, he says that depends on how much longer it takes SDOT to review/approve the plan.

Okay, fix it tonight, between 11pm-4am…Or let’s make excuses.

I vote for overnight repair and using LED lights to reduce the maintenance intervals.

Might as well string the whole thing with Christmas lights while they’re at it.

Maybe The City could repaint the lane stripes while they are at it

YES! I commute the bridge at about 6 am and it’s scary in the dark & rain.

How about something more permanent this time? Seems like whole stretches of the bridge go out all the time.

Thought they did several closures for Light Bulb installation/changeout (LED’s were done a while back BTW) in the last several months.  I did notice it was pitch black taking the 99 NB ramp last Tuesday night and wondered what was up with the new lights not working. I didn’t see anything on “The Blog” so I figured I must have imagined it.

Why is it that the bridge lights seem to have this issue every few years?

The eastbound side lights were on when I went by this morning about 5:30… they were out yesterday morning.

I just drove over at 10 pm, and the south side of the bridge was off still.

I had to drive across the bridge tonight and to be specific, the outage starts just east of the crest.

The lights under the bridge along the bike/walking path are also out. Looks like several utility covers were pulled up and something taken from inside them. It’s been several weeks but I saw the utility had been out and marked the poles recently.

SDoT will schedule the lighting replacement for Monday January 14th, 2019!

Not funny but that was actually the question I asked SCL, whether the repair is likely to happen before Viadoom…

It is very dangerous on SB 99 with many street lights out in the Matson area. There is a huge puddle that causes hydroplaning and with the lights out, you cant see it coming. Thus is the second winter that these lights have been out. Wondering who we can contact to get them fixed!

Gave up a long time ago reporting non functioning streetlamps on this stretch. Your choice of the word “chronic” is an apt choice.

Sorry, comment time is over.
