READER REPORT: Driver hits tree on 35th SW

In case you see/saw this on 35th SW in Gatewood, thanks to Camille for the photo and report:

A head on collision with a tree at 35th and Southern. The guy was stunned for a sec then took off. Nobody else in the car so no one was hurt.

At last report, Camille says, police hadn’t found the driver. She says it happened around 6:30 am.

I’m sorry to hear he was only “stunned”.  Hope they find him asap.

You’re right, Lisab. When I see an accident I really hope and pray the driver and all passengers suffered an injury that would leave them with at least a prolonged disability. Seems only right really.

Dang tree came out of nowhere!

We don’t know anything else about the circumstances, nor whether the driver was eventually located.

It’s possible it could have been some type of medical episode. Would you feel better if the person was severely injured or killed in the accident?  Until you actually know the circumstances please don’t  imply and offer your opinion/editoral as fact. But thanks…

    • Here are your facts May 20, 2018 (5:23 pm)

If it was medical I doubt the person would take off. Usually it’s because they have stolen the car, no insurance and/or license, on something or in possession of something illegal, etc etc.

    “some type of medical episode.”

I suspect the episode involved a bottle or three of alcohol or “recreational drugs”.  You don’t run away from an accident  for the exercise.

(Looking at the car I have to presume he or she sure didn’t drive off thinking it was just a ding.)

Personal responsibility and the law preclude just running away so one is left to presume the driver had good reasons to want to avoid legal entanglements.

I’m going with here are the facts on this one. Just sayin…

Wow, I am amazed that the car was able to be driven away.  Seems like a desperate move…?

    • WSB May 21, 2018 (10:14 am)

Did you see it driven away as opposed to being towed? Crashes (unless major) are all but impossible to follow up on, so I have no way of checking.

I was going by the description of “The guy was stunned for a sec then took off. ” Did I misinterpret?  towing takes a good long while and this makes it sound like he didn’t stick around.  Maybe they meant he walked away.

        • WSB May 21, 2018 (10:49 am)

The driver took off. The vehicle remained, minus the driver.

That way, the police can’t pin the accident on the driver because, even if the car is registered to the driver, they can’t prove he was driving it at the time.

Sorry, comment time is over.
