JUNCTION NOTES: Parking-lot work; one coffee shop sold, another for sale; more…

West Seattle Junction notes:

PARKING-LOT WORK: On an errand this morning, we discovered that the southwestern most free-parking lot is closed today for pavement work.

The work should be done tomorrow, according to Lora Swift, director of the West Seattle Junction Association. If you can’t tell from the photo, this is the lot on 44th SW just north of SW Edmunds.

(AFTERNOON UPDATE: WSJA says the work will be done by 5 pm today.)

COFFEE SHOP SOLD: By the way, Swift – whose position leading the WSJA just became permanent – is out of the coffee-shop business. She has sold Hotwire Online Coffeehouse (4410 California SW; WSB sponsor) after 16 years. You might know its new owners from their other business, Flying Apron, the vegan/gluten-free bakery whose goods have been among Hotwire’s offerings for 6+ years. The coffee-shop name is staying the same.

COFFEE SHOP FOR SALE: Meantime, across the street, Red Cup Espresso (4451 California SW) is up for sale. Co-proprietor Samir Baillie tells WSB, “I have recently accepted another job, and my wife Breanna wants to concentrate on her other growing business, so we are desiring to pass the torch on to another coffee enthusiast! They can contact us at: westsidecoffee.redcupespresso@gmail.com – please, no walk-in/phone inquiries!” Samir and Breanna bought Red Cup five years ago.

GLOW MEDISPA OPEN HOUSE: After moving to The Junction over the summer, Glow Medispa (4409 California SW) is having an open house tomorrow, 4-8 pm, to officially introduce itself to neighbors and other interested community members. More info here.

wow; perhaps I’m just totally out of the loop, but seems the news of Lora Swift becoming permanent director of WSJA and selling Hotwire, both huge news and deserve stand-alone story; Lora is such a treasure; glad to have her running the show for WS; shocked to hear she sold her coffee-shop

We cover what we can where we can how we can and when we can. I was exchanging texts with her about Hotwire when she mentioned the WSJA gig is now permanent so I dropped it in. And now, the City Council item I’ve been waiting all morning for is beginning, so it’s onward. – TR

Flying Apron moving in is also big news to the gluten free crowd.

Lora Swift is THE BEST!! Three cheers to her for all her hard work. Love her lavender honey orange fancy coffee drinks, too. Best to you Lora. Happy about Flying Apron taking over, as well.

I remember the building where many moons was, being listed for sale is that coffee shop that’s for sale connected to the building for sale? Wonder what the outcome of that would be. So excited to welcome flying apron and congrats, Lora! She’s the best!

With Flying Apron buying Hotwire, does that mean they’ll be offering their delicious gluten-free and vegan treats here in West Seattle? Please say yes!

Omnivore – I linked our 2010 story about Hotwire selling some Flying Apron goods starting way back then, and I think the shop continued to do so ever since… at least, I think I saw them there relatively recently …

Congrats and good luck to all. I remember when Red Cup was the only and best  coffee joint in the Junction at one time other than Capers. Nice run guys.
