Update: Why police were searching in Lincoln Park area

3:56 PM: A man who abandoned that vehicle near in the Fauntleroy ferry dock waiting lane and ran into Lincoln Park is still being sought. Now Guardian One has just made a pass over the area. Ferry-bound traffic is tied up, meantime, while police deal with the abandoned vehicle. More to come.

4:20 PM: Southwest Precinct Lt. Alan Williams explains, “A parking enforcement officer on-viewed a person asleep or passed out in a stopped vehicle. Police officers were en route when the guy woke up and ran off. No known crime involved but officers tried to locate him to see what the issue was (medical? – probably not, but we needed to try to check with him).”

So. Would you say it’s not the best time up be at the park?

Drunk at the wheel? Keys in ignition, police arrive he runs scared?

At this point, we’ll never know. But at the time things appeared a little intense, so that’s why we posted this, and we’re glad it turned out not to be a dangerous situation. Guardian One quickly went back to monitoring May Day downtown, which so far is peaceful.

Glad they checked it out anyway, just in case.

So did the guy ever come back to the truck? Maybe he just needed a nap and saw the empty truck? Did they tow the truck away?

Wish I knew but I don’t. No access to the report but the final coding of the incident in Tweets by Beat (see the Crime Watch page for the ongoing flow of tweets – most incidents have two, first what it was reported as, “man down” in this case, then what it turned out to be, and you can link them via the same incident number) was suspicious person, not “stolen car” or anything more dire, so that bodes relatively well.
