TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Wednesday updates

(Live view from the east-facing WS Bridge camera; other cameras are on the WSB Traffic page)
Good morning! So far, nothing unusual reported as we head to the heart of the commute.

7:50 AM: The low bridge was closed to vehicle traffic to let a boat through, but has just reopened, per SDOT‘s Twitter feed.

EVENING NOTE: Metro has gone public with the info about its September 28th “service change,” including three West Seattle routes’ changes – here’s our story.

The lower bridge is at a standstill. I’ve been sitting and waiting to get on for the last 20 minutes or so.

Thanks, Helen. Not seeing an obvious reason in the traffic-monitoring channels or elsewhere … but will share the warning. UPDATE – SDOT just posted that it has reopened, so it must have been an opening for marine traffic.

Traveling north on Delridge: traffic is backed up as far south as Brandon St.

Weird. I’ve never been caught on the 1st Ave S bridge in rush hour; I thought they didn’t open during certain hours? Just got pegged myself on the lower bridge.

While some political leaders, most notably City Councilmember Tom Rasmussen, have campaigned for rush-hour restrictions on lower West Seattle Bridge openings, they’ve lost the fight (except for a few temporary stints during BIG construction work like multiday Viaduct closures) because maritime takes precedence. – TR

By the way, coming from Spokane to bridge, you have a yield sign…Delridge ramp to bridge does not. Cheers!

  • JayDee September 18, 2013 (10:12 am)

Sorry Helridge, the Google knows all. Delridge Traffic has the Yield Sign, clearly shown in Street View. Traffic coming from Spokane to the Bridge has the ROW.

  • highlandpark September 18, 2013 (10:37 am)

Isn’t the yield sign facing the cars on Spokane? I drive this route daily and always thought Delridge drivers had the ROW. Now I feel badly for having honked at a couple of folks who I thought were not yielding properly.

  • helridge September 18, 2013 (10:45 am)

The yield sign is aimed towards Spokane. I see it everyday.

West Seattle’s finest motorists! Thanks for the laugh.

The yield sign is on the SPOKANE side. Which is the on-ramp to the West Seattle Bridge. Come on people. It’s not hard to follow simple traffic laws. This should go to all busses as well. I have NEVER seen a bus yield at that sign and almost been run off the road a couple of times.

  • JayDee September 18, 2013 (1:05 pm)

Google Street view shows the Yield signs clearly on both sides of the Delridge ramp leading to the lower bridge. I take Spokane but I looked at Street View when Helridge offered his interpretation. So it really isn’t my opinion, its the Google-Truth.

Ah, I think I see the confusion I caused.

Lower bridge: Delridge should yield to Spokane.
Upper bridge: Spokane should yield to Delridge.

@A, I have also been almost run off the road by a Metro bus barreling onto upper bridge from Spokane. It’s a scary spot.

  • JayDee September 18, 2013 (6:16 pm)

Sorry Helridge, thought you meant low bridge. I thought only buses used the cloverleaf. My bad.

Sorry, comment time is over.
