West Seattle traffic alert: Backup on westbound bridge

4:27 PM: Trouble on the westbound bridge. The 911 log shows two incidents; the camera view above shows what is described as a medical call.

4:38 PM: One person who’s just gone through the area says it’s definitely very slow going getting onto the bridge, particularly from I-5. So if you use motorized transportation and can wait a while to head for home – that might be your best option.

4:43 PM: Via radio communications, police report “the high rise is clear.” The residual backup might take a while to ease, though.

(P.S. The live camera view also has been moved by WSDOT back to its regular angle at the I-5 interchange, but it showed the east side of the westbound high-rise approach while the incident was still unfolding.)

Just passed this heading down to Sodo – I only noticed one car; thought it was a medical emergency. Looked pretty backed up from 99 and I5.

The 911 log shows two incidents, which is why we’re vague till I can get some confirmation. Thanks.

Not a shock at all. In my opinion, WS deserves what it asks for…well, most of you. Why? I’ll tell ya why. 95% of people crossing in and out of WS disregard the speed limit. Flying by going 40, 50+ in a 35 gets you what you deserve. Blatant disregard for your neighbors, your teachers, your doctors, your friends children, etc who use that viaduct is NOT NEIGHBORLY. Use your cruise control. It works wonders for me so it can for you too. Then, folks would stop getting hurt and killed. It’s been a long-term problem. I was in the sixth grade when Mrs. Kato (beloved long-time librarian of Cooper Elementary) described an accident to me (on the viaduct) that killed a graduate on their way to Memorial Stadium on graduation day. It stuck with me. Have some respect and consideration and find a way to get the message through to others. Like, slow yourself down for starters. I do realize this is not on the viaduct, but taking the great opportunity to ask folks to do the right thing.

There’s a significant one car crash on the off-ramp onto Delridge in the left lane.

Thanks, Michelle. That would be the one on the 911 log, then.

    Ta Granados,

Thank god I am not a goody two shoes like you. I couldn’t imagine going through life feeling so responsible for everything that happened to anyone at an arbitrary time in the past.

Ta Granados, get over yourself. “Most of” WS “deserves” to be hurt/killed?! You don’t even know what happened, but you’re spewing your self-righteous crap.

Bravo TA Granados but good luck getting it thru the thick skulked hand held device generation currently wreckleessing driving in and amongst us old schoolers.

Ta Granaondos – FYI that section of the bridge is 45 MPH…

Also, please note, the incident that led us to publish this was a medical call, NOT a crash, on the high rise. There was apparently a concurrent incident that was a one-car crash on the Delridge exit but not related.

I drove by soon after the firefighters arrived; they were kneeling down and speaking with someone in the backseat of the car that was stopped in the right lane of the bridge. There was a second car pulled over further ahead; a firefighter was speaking to them as well.
