TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Thursday updates

No problems on the routes heading out of West Seattle right now, but there is a crash in the Alki area:

That’s a reader photo from the scene at 60th and Admiral, where the call went out as a “medic response,” meaning at least one person was reported as injured; we have someone headed that way to find out more and to see how traffic is affected.

7:08 AM: Our crew has arrived at the scene and says the crash is at the southwest corner of 60th/Admiral, in the eastbound lanes, but should be cleared before too long.

8:39 AM: Postscript on that crash – police at the scene say one person was taken to the hospital. Meantime, “Fed Up” in comments says the eastbound bridge is currently backed up from I-5 to 35th SW.

21E going downtown packed-standing room at the front-35th SW and Morgan at 7:39am–usually not packed to the point of people standing in the front. A much larger passenger load for some reason. Non arriving or early arriving express prior to that bus????

I have a weekend question – the sign down admiral hill says Spokane Street is closed during the day Friday and Sat – is that the actual spokane street under the bridge or Spokane Freeway (or whatever we call it)

That’s the one under the bridge. Thanks for the reminder – I need to re-add the weekend information here now that we’re almost to the weekend. The other closure this weekend is the ramp to southbound I-5 from the eastbound bridge – final major closure of the “Spokane Interchange Special Bridge Repair” work. – TR

Eastbound bridge traffic seems especially bad in the morning and westbound is heavier than usual in the evening, even when there is no obvious reason (accident, etc). I wonder what’s going on.

The traffic seems much worse than usual heading out of WS in the morning this week. I can’t remember the last time it was backed up to Fauntleroy for no reason. I wonder if more people are giving up on the bus?

Usually traffic is messier than usual when the sun starts making an appearance. I don’t get it but maybe it’s the blinding blast of sunlight at the top of the bridge?? Or maybe it’s because we keep building more places for more people to come to West Seattle to live that also have to get out in the morning in order to pay there rent/mortgage……… Just a hunch. :)

I like it bsmomma :) “Sunshine slowdown” and yeah, more units keep getting built but the routes and modes of transportation out of WS are staying the same or decreasing (stops on bus routes).
